Jouissance

One word--jouissance.

About Me

I collect shoes and old books. I have three dogs and two cats. I don't really like people, and I have a horrible temper. I give money to Planned Parenthood and NOW. I like to sleep because I have really insane dreams that sometimes haunt me during the day. I want to win the lottery, so I can give the money away. I hate bell peppers, which is unfortunate because I'm a vegetarian, and vegetarian cusine includes a lot of bell peppers. When I was a kid, I didn't talk a lot because I was homeschooled and had no friends. As a result, I have a difficult time pronouncing certain words--something that I am quite ashamed of. I love the smells of jasmine, coffee, and fire. I love that in my family we have: a pyschic, a born-again christian, a lawyer, a republican, a special-needs person, and me, a leftist liberal. I love that we can still have big, family dinners where we argue about everything over pasta that my sister lovingly makes. I love where I live, and if I had to, I would die for my town but not my country. I like rain, but I hate the cold. Sometimes, I think about the monks who set themselves on fire to protest the Vietnam war. Sometimes, I wish I had their courage.

My Interests

Reading, writing, traveling everywhere and anywhere (in fact, I want to go to every continent, if not country, before I die),watching obscure movies, riding horses, trying to find a way to get rid of the ants that have invaded my kitchen (that is, without killing them), taking care of my animals (I have a bunch), learning, Bush-Bashing, and not eating poor and defenseless animals.

I'd like to meet:

Does anybody ever really "meet" anybody on these things? Please.

Music:

Beastie Boys, Nina Simone, Tori Amos, Ani DeFranko, JunkieXL, VAST, OutKast, Ozomatli, Rusted Root, Cold Play(oh my god, does that make me old?), Transplants, N.E.R.D., Green Day, Joni Mitchell, Jeff Buckley (so fucking tragic), Massive Attack, The Killers, Low Fidelity Allstars, U.N.K.L.E, Radiohead, Tricky, Portishead (which always reminds me of this working girl whose favors I tried to purchase in Amsterdam), Moby, The Roots, Sia, Vanessa Daou, Sonic Youth, Deadboy and the Elephantmen, and I'm sure there's more but someone stole my iPod a few weeks ago, so it's too painful to talk about music.

Movies:

Run Lola Run, Supersize Me, Me and You and Everyone We Know, Metropolis, Wedding Crashers, It Happened One Night, The Education of Shelby Knox, Live Flesh, Belle du Jour, Amelie', 61, Tokyo Decadence, The Ice Storm, Born into Brothels, Spellbound, Grey Gardens, Any 1940-1950's Musical, loved Guys and Dolls, National Velvet, Gone With the Wind, World According to Garp, and I'm sorry, but Just Friends was funny.

Television:

Arrested Development, Weeds, 6 Feet Under, 30 Days, Reno 911, Lost, Scrubs, Amazing Race, Family Guy, The Simpsons, American Dad, the L Word, Digging for the Truth (I'll admit I find that Josh guy somewhat attractive), Gilmore Girls. You know, now that I think about it, I read more than watch TV, but I somehow manage to watch a lot of TV. Oh yeah, and I love reality tV, which means I'm going staright to hell.

Books:

"Confession of an English Opium Eater, by De Quincey, The World According to Garp, Anna Karenina, I Know this Much is True, My Life in Orange, Anthem, East of Eden, Gone With the Wind, Henry and June, The Kiss, Election, Under the Banner of Heaven, La Bete Humaine (anything by Zola), The Giver, Sex Lives of Cannibals, the Outlander Series, The Sun Magazine, Wuthering Heights, Candide, Tartuffe (yeah yeah, it's a play, whatever), The Handmaiden's Tale (Margaret Atwood is a goddess), The Bonfire of the Vanities, In Cold Blood, Damage, Jitterbug Perfume (anything by Tom Robbins, huge fan), Beloved, Middlesex, The Adventures of Cavalier and Klay (am I spelling it right?), Shakespeare, The Hours, The English Patient, Underworld, Dawn Powell is the best fucking writer of the 20th century, so take that Clare Luce Booth! Belinda by Anne Rice (yeah, it's trash, but I love it!), The Fan Maker's Inquisition (if you were wondering what the fuck Sade was writing about, this book's for you!), The Moor's Last sigh, Austerlitz (just because it has a 5 PAGE SENTENCE, now that takes genius people. Either that or sadism, the jury is still out), The Second Sex (OK I admit I haven't gotten through the whole thing, but who has?), The Book of Mormon (one of the greatest works of fiction), and golly I'll think of more.

Heroes:

My feminist sisters, from Mary Wollstonecraft on...Jane Goodall, Harry Potter, my blood sisters, WWII Veterans, Edgar Allen Poe, Mark Twain, you know what -fuck it- any writers, Danny, my old dog Piper, and most of my professors...

My 500 Presentation Sucked

I will open up this little ditty by, once again, bitching about "That Guy" in my 500 class. "That Guy" and "Mrs. I'm not a Feminist, but I owe my acceptance into this school to one" have become insep...
