Jaron Boyce (Jay Babyboy) was born in Concord, NC to Isabelle Boyce Barrett and Willie Sumlin. As a kid he has been wanting to do so many activities but do to the lack of fatherhod, Jay was limited to his options. His mother was a single parent of two, Jay of course, and his beautiful older sister (Kenisha Boyce Reid). She did what she could to keep food on the table and clothes on their backs. His sister taught him all that he needed to know as a kid and she also inspired Jay to sing coming up. When she was in the youth choir, she used to come home and rehearse her songs. Jay, then helped her sing and not knowing what he was doing, he started to bend his voice as he sang so that let him know then that God had given him the gift to sing. After which, Jay joined the MCSUCC choir of Northwest High School and he was the first to come from another school to join but thats another story. "I first sang my first solo in like 1993 and I was soo nervous," commented Jay. "My God- mother Mama Ruth Brooks taught me to never to be scared in front of no one so I took it an ran wit it." Well, Jay was on the choir for 12 years and seen many changes the choir had taken on and figured that it was time for a turn so Jay then took a turn to R & B. He helped make a group in High school called the Cypha Sonz in 1995 and they really didnt have the backing of anyone until like 1999. "WE WAS DOING ALOT OF IN HOUSE MUSIC WHICH WE THOUGHT WAS OK AT THE TIME HAHA" Jay said. Jay had then met up with his good cousin Bryne Bane (Uncontrollable Records LLC.) and he wanted the "Cypha" to come out to record their first song "My Life." After they dropped the song, everyone loved it and they started doing small local shows here and there. Everything didnt work out too peachy though. In 2002 it seemed like the Cypha wasnt makin any progress and they had just gotten discouraged and stopped going to the studio. The Cypha Sonz werent downand out yet though. They had a brother who had gotten outta prison by the name of Lashaud McCullough, a.k.a., Pac. He formed the team into a click named, T.H.U.G. (the hood under god). He kept the team motivated no matter what went on in life to hold them back. Unfortunately we lost our soldier to the kriptonite of black folks, the gun. He was in a terrible scuffle and was killed in 2005. We will always, ALWAYS have Pac in our hearts, our minds, and prayers. Afterwards, the heartache took a toll on a couple members of the click. It didnt stop Jay though. He continued his persuit to his dream. Jay then, just started working on his solo project. He had this to say. "I thank God for giving me the opportunity to please everyone in song" Jay said. "I also would like to thank my Baby's Mother Kelly Nance for 7 seven years of a good descent relationship and concieving my beautiful daughter Zamariah Boyce and also HER oldest daughter Jakiyah Mitchell, which I have also as my daughter as well.
