About Me
Born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas, as a little girl I've always enjoyed Music. May it have been from the few old records that my grandmother had laying around in the house of those American golden oldies or listening to the music from the very first radio I won from a school walk-a-thon in grade 2, of all the '80" jamz. Though no one directly related to me showed an outstanding interest in music, I remember at around age 6 being fascinated with the way Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston sang and I would often imitate them in my own little corner of the house while mom was to work and mama was in her room laying down. I actually kept my love of music and singing a secret because I was so shy.
It was not until around the age of 10 by mistake, the nun (Sister Cecilia) of my primary school ended up hearing me sing and then forced me to sing at the school's assembly meeting. After that first time performing in front of others, I cried like a baby, but after that, my mom was then made aware of my talent and from there she encouraged me and I haven't stopped singing.
It was then my mother encouraged me to sing in my church's choir. At age 10, I was already serving as an ambassador for my country as a member of the Bahamas National Children's Choir, traveling throughout the Bahama Islands and U.S.A., helping to promote the Bahamian culture through the folk music indigenous to my country.
At age 15, I joined the Bahamas National Youth Choir which broadened my appreciation for different genres of music, expanding my repertoire from my native folk music to classical music. I also had the opportunity of traveling and performing around the world to places such as Toronto, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Paris, France, Finland, Poland, Beijing, China and also throughout the beautiful islands of my Bahama land.To better prepare myself for solo stage performances, and to rid the fright and shyness I felt everytime I went on stage, I entered a few local singing competitions.
In 2001, I had decided to enter Miss Teen Bahamas and was successful in winning the crown over 26 girls.
Around the year 2001 - 2002, I had the opportunity of traveling to Kingston, Jamaica to be featured on Blessed's (an up an coming Bahamian Reggae Artist) Album, these songs included hit singles such as "I wanna run to you" and "Don't be Shy".
Being featured on Blessed's Album gave me the opportunity to perform at concerts one may only dream of performing to. Being featured with Blessed on his songs, I was able to open for such artists as Ghost, Capleton, Red Rat, Buji Banton, Wayne Marshall, Beenie Man, and many more to name. Being a part of his project inspired me to try to make a mark in the music field, but it seemed more like a dream because it seemed unrealistic and more negativity surrounded me instead of positivity.
Still not over my shyness, in February 2003 I decided to enter a singing competion in Miami, "VH1's Born to Diva, which was a production of Tommy Mottola (American music executive and co-owner of Casablanca Records in a joint venture with the Universal Music Group, and is former husband of singer Mariah Carey ). This competition was held in Miami, London, Atlanta, Philadelphia and New York. Over hundreds of girls that had entered in the U.S.A. for the Miami auditions, I was the only non-resident/citizen, and made the top 5 of the Miami auditions, which written up in the Miami Herald and reported on Florida's CBS News station, later being aired in April - May 2003. The judges were Gloria Estefan (Cuban American singer and songwriter, Cory Rooney (songwriter, record producer, and C.E.O. of Cory Rooney Group), Ron Grant (Senior A&R executive for Sony Music), and Ken Komisar, Former Vice President of A&R for Sony Music (LA), and was previously General Manager of MJJ Records (Michael Jackson’s production company), currently he serves as President of Tennman Records. After making it only so far in the competition, I soon returned home to start another venture. I began singing backgrounds for another local artist "Nathan Stone". During this time as a background singer for Nathan Stone, we performed locally in night clubs as well as internationally, where we traveled and performed to such clubs as the "Mansion" in South Beach Miami, the Viper Room (LA, Sunset Blvd. Hollywood), the Roxy (LA, Sunset Blvd. Hollywood), the Whisky a Go Go (LA Hollywood, California). Since then, I have sung backgrounds for a few Bahamian and International artist's recordings and worked on a project for the Ministry of Tourism.
In December 2004 I joined a local Bahamian band called the "Xtra Band" as one of the front line singers, singing lead to the popular "Private Dancer" & cover song "Best of My Love" (originally by T-COnnection, 1983).Many persons usually ask me "what's up with the singing career?" I'm truly enjoying the simple things in life. Many people believe that you must obtain a certain status, so they try so hard to be who they aren't. I say, tomorrow's not promised so I'm doing what I can but I'm certainly not stressing it. What shall be will be. Hate it or love it.xxxI edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
