REVIEWS
"This is the Invasion" by Collective-zine.co.uk:
Eclectic is a bullshit word. It makes me think of funk-metal and
samba influences. It makes me think of descriptions people give you of
their bands when theyre too scared to admit that really theyre just dull
as shit and sound like everything else. Few bands can claim to be eclectic
without ultimately sounding like cocks. The mouthful of a band that is the
Avenging Disco Godfathers of Soul probably could. Because to them, music
is maths and theyre Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man.
At heart, the Godfathers are pretty much a screamo beast. But thank
merry fuck that they decide to stray away from the tried and tested
confines of that particular style and inject a little pizzazz into the
proceedings. So alongside full-throttle screams and snarling Blood
Brothers-style breakdowns they throw Crom Tech-worshipping jazz hell;
ragtime basslines; percussion like bones and xylophones and teeth rattling
in biscuit tins; a stealthy funk workout (that mysteriously doesnt sound
like shite); eerie electronic squiggles and a healthy wallop of bebop.
These kids can play their darn instruments. They can flap and squawk and
thrash with the best of them, as well as noodle off into musical realms
most punks arent even aware of. All with absolute fluidity, a feline
grace that means they dont sound like a bunch of know-it-all schmucks who
just want to impress other muso dolts with their chops and
nudgenudgewinkwink references to Sun Ra recordings. Hooray and hurrah!
Fans of Racebannon take note: youve just made a new friend.

The Ultimate in Authenticity and Musical Usefullness review from Punknews.org
When I get CDs in the mail its never a surprise for me to find
something from a band Ive never heard of. Usually some of these bands are
good, but most are average at best. However, for some reason this release
really caught my attention. Maybe it was the bands name, The Avenging
Disco Godfathers of Soul (from now on Ill refer to them as the
Godfathers); in fact, it definitely was the bands name. I had a feeling
that this album was going to be quite interesting; I just didnt know how
impressive it would turn out to be.
Comparisons could be made to The Locust, An Albatross, Fantomas, or
maybe even Since by Man. But it wouldnt be fair to this trio to just pin
them down by saying they sound like this band. Theres so much going on
in these tracks that it might leave your overwhelmed, but surprisingly
everything flows together really well and even the strangest tempo/style
changes seem to make sense. Just how much is going on here? In a little
over a minute and a half into the CD the band goes from horror movie theme
music, to melodic rock, to hardcore, to grind, to game show music. The
Godfathers utilize pretty much anything they can get their grubby little
hands on. Aside from the usual instruments, youll hear synthesizers,
xylophones (!), and some percussion instruments that some people, me
included dont know by name. Throughout the album there are odd synth
passages along with bits of hardcore, jazz, metal, grind, and noise. But
even with their chaos and experimentation these guys arent afraid to take
a good riff and run with it. That means that instead of being overly
confusing this album is just a good listen.
I cant say enough about just how good this album is. It's not the
easiest thing describe, but you'll be impressed once you hear it. If you
like any of the aforementioned bands or if youre just interested in
hearing something fresh and new, then this just might be essential for
you. You can check out their mp3.com site and download some older songs
plus one from this album. There isnt much left to say except "buy this!
