Lorenzo Serafin

About Me

He started studying jazz at the age of 14 with the Italian guitar master Alberto Pizzigoni and classic armony with Daniele Lenti, music composer and conductor in Milano; he collaborated later as electric bass player with “Allegri Leprotti” the rock group who led the “rock in opposition” Milan scene in the ’80. He frequented civic jazz school in the ’90 playing with Franco Cerri guitar q.et and with the Milano Civic Big Band leaded by Enrico Intra. In 1998 the co-production of a original didactic music show titled “Lezione di Musiche” with Paolo Cattaneo, exemplifying music through the sound of words. In the 2000’ summer at the Siena Jazz easter master class he started to work on substantiating his improvisation capabilities with the pianist Stefano Battaglia. Today he often improvise and plays jazz standards and original compositions in duo and trio with the jazz guitar player Massimo Vescovi. Sometimes he plays ancient and traditional north Italian music with Alessandro Arioli and some suggestive north italian folk projects; recently he took interest in eastward music and he concentrated some energies in studying oud with the italo-azero group “Sharg Uldusù”, leaded by the Tar player Fakraddin Gafarov. He sometimes plays bass in duo with the young talentuoso Italian oud player Elias Nardi proposing a beautiful selection of oriental classics and original compositions inspired from the pure makam Arabic tradition. He’s interested in electronic/acoustic music capabilities too, collaborating with Pietro Pirelli and Luca Martegani constructing a new way of improvising and composing with acoustics and electronics devices.
