Band Members: Lead by the tabla player Debasish Bhattacharjee, the music group ANUBHAB has existed in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta, India) since far back as 1996.
There are 16 musicians belonging to the group, including vocalists, flutists, slide guitarists, santoor, violin and sitar players.Debasish Bhattacharjee began his studies of the tabla at the age of 7. Later he took lessons with masters like Pandit Swapan Chowdhury of Lucknow-Gharana and Prof. Bablu Pal.
He has meanwhile acquired the feel and ability to accompany with his tabla nearly every style of music. So, he has already played together with reggae, jazz, overtone musicians, African music groups and even pop groups.
His special passion, however, is classical Indian music.
He carefully selects the musicians for the ANUBHAB ensemble and prepares them for international appearances. Besides classical Indian music, they are able to play just as well Ghazal, Thumri, Dhun, Bengali and old Bollywood songs. In May 2008 he founded together with the German Cornelia Rave the “ANUBHAB-ACADEMY Indian music & more“ in Cologne and Siegburg, whose musical director he is. There, Indian music, Hindi and Bengali are taught, and from there the group, to which a different vocalist and instrumentalist come from India every three months, start their European-wide tours. The ACADEMY has already become a multicultural meeting place, where people from Europe, India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia, Argentine, Iran, Turkey and Kurdistan meet peacefully and converse about music. This often leads to the fusion of projects.Cornelia Rave is the managing director of the ACADEMY, at classical concerts she plays the Tanpura, sings at chanting and meditation groups, and accompanies the group as a percussionist during Ghazal and Bollywood songs.Very important for us is supporting the indian Kondolia Hospital (Kondolia Krankenhaus Förderverein Euskirchen), with collecting donations and playing benefit-concerts.From January 2008 until beginning of April 2008 we are again accompanied by Jaydeeo Bhanja Choudhury (Sitar) and Subha Bhattacharya (Vocal).
