These are the days we lived on paper...
Since the very beginning in the late 90’s Edenshade has always been pictured by the press and the fans to be one of the most exciting realities in the Italian underground metal scene.
When the debut album “Ceramic Placebo for a Faint Heart†(recorded in Rome at the Outer Sound Studios) was released in June 2003 by Atrheia Records, everyone was suddenly shocked by the incredible maturity and emotion expressed by the band's ten compositions. Defined by the critics a mixture of the modern swedish death metal scene (In Flames, Dark Tranquillity) and the progressive metal of Pain of Salvation and Dream Theater, “Ceramic Placebo for a Faint Heart†combined those influences with an all-Italian sense of melody and taste for electronics to create the portrait of Edenshade‘s music.
“The Lesson Betrayedâ€, recorded and produced at the band’s own Duality Studios, took Edenshade a step further: a new musical and vocal approach, new ideas and, most of all, a concept album. Released in April 2006 by My Kingdom Music, it made clear that Edenshade had no fear to take risks. “The Lesson Betrayed†was a more complex and personal work, with death metal and progressive metal becoming only influences in the overall sound of the band, which became more modern and definitely unique. While someone was surprised or somehow disoriented, nearly everyone in the press and among the fans claimed “The Lesson Betrayed†to be Edenshade's best work to date.
Year 2008 brought big changes for Edenshade. With the help of the new management Alkemist Fanatix Europe plans were made to release “the Lesson Betrayed†in the UK and the band was ready to embark on their first UK tour before starting collecting the material for the new album. But something seemed now to be missing in terms of motivations: with the tour being postponed from April to November and then cancelled the original line-up of the band simply faded away.
In the meantime, Stefano Wosz had entered the studio to begin the preproduction for Edenshade‘s third album with the help of friend and producer Enrico Tiberi. While the new songs were growing and the old Edenshade simply going nowhere, Stefano Wosz decided that it was time for a big change, taking on himself vocal duties and having Enrico Tiberi join the band.
When the first four songs were ready and finished, they seemed simply too good to not being shared with the fans. The band and the management thus decided that it could have been a good opportunity to publish them as a four tracks digital EP to anticipate the new album expected for the end of 2009.
“The Paper Days EP†is again an evolution of Edenshade‘s style, with the new songs relying on the vocal performance of the newfound singer Stefano Wosz and where electronics is melted over heavy riffs, intense melodies and the usual, defying, incredible musical patterns.
