Emerging like a phoenix from the ashes of their former guise, the critically lauded and well-regarded melodic rock act Adriangale have reunited to form CRUNCH. The band features seminal vocalist Jamie Rowe (Guardian/Adriangale/London Calling), acclaimed guitarist/producer Vic Rivera (Adriangale/Poley-Rivera) and respected guitarist Eddie Campbell (Adriangale/Arabia). For the bassist slot, Crunch enlisted Doug Odell (formerly of Ice Age) to complete the newly-formed act.
“Adriangale never really had true closure,†says Vic Rivera (chief songwriter/principal architect of both Adriangale and Crunch). “This was due in no small part to our not having rights to continued usage of the name after the CRUNCH record was completed. Consequentially, as Adriangale’s music deserved to have a much broader audience than had previously afforded under our prior working conditions, Jamie, Eddie and myself always knew that there would be a time for us to reconvene when the right opportunity presented itself.â€
Such an opportunity arose when Kieran Dargan, mastermind of the popular Firefest rock festivals, contacted Vic Rivera in November of 2006 to gauge interest in appearing at the 2007 lineup of that show. Chomping at the bit, Jamie, Vic, Ed and Doug (who had previously worked with Adriangale in the studio for the RE:PROGRAM record) were more than willing and able to participate. Though regrettably unable to secure the rights continue on as Adriangale, at the suggestion of Mr. Dargan a name change was proposed and immediately welcomed – thusly, Crunch was born.
Crunch made their debut live appearance at the October 2007 installment of Firefest, to the delight of the 1700+ fans in attendance. Not willing to simply rest on the laurels of their prior material, the band showed up armed with a 3-song EP simply (and aptly) entitled STARTING OVER, the title track of which was presented to the eager crowd alongside their signature Adriangale favorites. Bristling with the massive hooks, unbridled energy and stellar musicianship that were the previous hallmarks of the Adriangale style, the EP picked right up where the CRUNCH record left off, with some stylistic evolution for good measure. What’s more: the band, interviewed by Steve Price of ARFM (UK), promised that this EP would be merely the beginning of new music to come, as they had no intent whatsoever to make this appearance and offering a “one-and-done†deal, but rather the rebirth of a musically viable act with plenty to offer to both their already established fan base and the countless untapped melodic rock fans eager for quality music from a bunch of well-seasoned veterans whose fingers are firmly on the pulse of the melodic rock scene.
No strangers to the game, Crunch is poised to make major waves in the melodic rock market. Promising things to come from this talented but humble quartet…stay tuned…
