Premade Layouts
As a versatile singer/songwriter - playing the guitar and piano (often accompanied by marvelous musicians) - my desire is to sing with a depth of spirit, experience and of course humor.
A native New Yorker, I’ve had the great fortune of traveling the world extensively, with my music. Often, due to the music, I have lived in many places - both in the US, South America and Europe – thus developing a broad view and perspective. Like a sailor of the soul and an “old-fashioned†romantic, these experiences have defined me and given my music a unique texture; an exotic twist.
In the ever growing Globalization and seemingly “boringization†in the world it is my hope to rekindle and awaken the unusual and yet universal specialness of what it means to be a person.
“To hear Deborah sing is to have a visceral experience, a deep sensation in the gut, something earthy and yet magical. She has the power to move the listener, to both tears and laughter, making one ecstatic to feel so alive.â€(audience comments)
Since my debut in 1990 at the Freight and Salvage concert hall in Berkeley California I’ve toured extensively through North America, Europe and more recently Argentina.(www.deborahjeanne.com) I’ve made six recordings of original songs and one for recording for children.
A serious dancer as well (Argentine Tango, Salsa, Greek, and Flamenco amongst others) the rhythmic and melodic variations from the world’s stock has been woven into my songs. I am honored to have won many songwriting awards from the American Society of Composers and Artists (ASCAP).
“A reviewer in Germany called her voice smoky, at times an overused adjective, and yet it makes sense if you think of Deborah as a sort of Folk-Torch singer who has held the fire so close to the ceiling that the flame has left vivid dark marks!†(Weekend Time-Out, Boston)
