Bio

Born in Rome, Alex Giordani is a talented songwriter, a gifted singer and musician, and so he writes, sings and plays his songs, defining his music as "Pop-Rock with an Orchestral touch." With his extensive on-stage experience, Alex has built a solid following due to his great voice and passionate live performances. This growing success has encouraged him to record professionally his home-produced songs. He has released his debut album "Essence" now available in stores. Imagine, Feel, Live... three simple words to describe what Alex's songs are about. His album "Essence" tells stories of people, details of real life, pictures painted of dreams: a personal diary made of lyric imagery, compelling sounds and heartfelt vocals evoking emotional and melodic moments.

Essence
A driving, well-produced, contemporary rock album, Alex’s “Essence”, contains an amazing mix of rock-steady tunes with U2 influences. The album starts with Alex’s powerful vocals on “Somebody’s There”, moving into his heartfelt lyrics and voice on “Rosemary”, the country-rock influenced “Arrive On Time” and the rockin’ synth riff-based song “I’ve Never Wanted”.

Alex’s thought-provoking, mature lyrics take you through life’s journey captured best in his title-track “Essence”, with burning guitar solos by Marco Rinalduzzi and lyrics that speak of our inner struggles. There is a wealth of composition and production experience blended into each song.. And Alex’s strong and deep vocals carry through from the start to the closing, reflective track “ White”.

Alex is an international recording artist, professionally producing this album in Rome. He is joined by a host of talented artists including Claudio Storniolo, Allessandro Canini, Simone Sello and Derek Wilson. Hat's off to Alex for hot rockin' album!

1. Where are you from, originally and what brought you to Santa Monica, CA?

I was born in Rome and always lived there.

2. What style of music would you say you do?

This is a hard to answer question... the first thing that comes to my mind is: Alex's style! But I know that this sounds too ambitious. I definitely collocate my music in the Pop-Rock genre that in fact comprehends many other styles of music. But more than a general style of music I can say that my purpose is to find the right sound for every single song: it?s like when you have to find the right dress for the single occasion. So if I have in mind a soulful atmosphere I use an orchestral sound for a ballad while if a song "needs" a punch and crunchy sound, then I use a more modern Rock sound...in some way it's the song that calls its own sound, sometimes I succeed in giving it the right dress sometimes I don't, but I think it's a normal situation for every songwriter.

3. What do you enjoy best - songwriting or performing and why?

I honestly say both. I am very inclined to creativity, I am always in search of the so-called "perfect song" so I love to write songs in every occasion. Sometimes I just have to stop 'cause I find myself in the frustrating vicious circles of non-inspiration! But the magic of songwriting happens when you feel you won't get anything good from the music you're working on and suddenly a little spark lights up and you feel the shivers down your back due to a melody you've just found.

I define "performing" the final ring of the chain, the perfect occasion to communicate to an audience all the emotions and sensations accumulated in the creative process. It is a very delicate balance but when you establish the right feeling with the audience then the show becomes a great experience full of touching moments but also fun and joy.

4. Who are your musical influences?

I've been influenced by many great artists, who play so different styles of music. I would put The Beatles and U2 at the first place, the first for the ability to create unforgettable melodies and for having created the "modern" pop rock, the seconds for the unbelievable humanity they put in their songs and for the emotions they can give me. I also love the Depeche Mode's music, I?ve followed them since their first albums, The Coldplay, Alanis Morrissette, Garbage, but I also listen with interest to the new Emo, Modern Rock and Punk Pop bands, like Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, The Muse and so on.

5. Describe your favorite song you have written and why is it so special to you?

Morning is my favourite even though there are some others I love a lot. I've chosen Morning mainly for its atmosphere, for the musical crescendo but most of all for the message it wants to spread: "drink every single drop of life and today could be a brighter day." And for the closing (outro) verses "every day you look around, your feet on the ground, your arms in the sky."

6. What are your goals for the next 5 years musically speaking?

My main goal is to keep writing and playing music. I'd like to "speak" to my favourite Art and see if its answers can turn into songs. Almost every artist has the ambition to become a Rockstar, but rarely they reach success. I am aware of that, the only thing I can do is to work as hard as possible in order to produce the best music I can and then whatever happens will be welcome. But, in the meantime, should only one listener feel emotions through one of my songs, I would say I've reached my little daily dream. I am working to make a song be not just 4 minutes of sound and words but something that become part of your life. Luckily I have a growing fan base that see the music in the same way.

7. Tell us about your recordings and what's in store next.

I am presently in a very creative mode - writing lots of new songs! I don't have any immediate recording plans, but hope to change that within a year.

8. Where can we buy your music?

9. What are your views about where the music industry is heading in your community, or on a global level?

I've just made my first steps in the "chaotic" music business, even though I?ve been playing live for many years. I"ve learned that in the last few years the market has begun to change, on one side there is the pressing wave of Indie-musician who wants to gain the "space" they deserve, and they can do it now more freely with the help of the Internet, on the other side there is the traditional commercial market managed by the Major labels who don't want to lose their dominant positions. It's an interesting evolution, who knows, I'd like to have a crystal ball, probably can become a revolution or a growing fire suddenly turned off by an icy shower.

10. Anything pertinent you'd like to say about Songsalive!

It's a great thing that a community like Songsalive! exists and helps musicians to spread their ideas and share their views with other artists from many different countries. It is an ambitious project but with a common goal we all want to reach. I am grateful to Gilli and Roxanne for the great work they've done and for their daily commitment in this project.

What can I say? author: martie*first of all I have to admit that I don..t if I can be as objective as I should because I co-wrote one of the songs - "For the first time" - as well as I am friends with this incredible talented singer/songwriter.But what I can definitely say is that this album shows a wide range of true talent.
