KING DJ IS AN ASSHOLE.
I only care about music.
I only talk about music.
Constantly.
I don't care about sexing up female (nor male) members of the crowd. I want to listen to the music.
I don't want to go higher, higher, HIGHER, FASTER, HAAAARDERRRR!!!!!! I like it down here where it's deep and funky.
I don't need to be seen, I like it in the dark where music is king.
I don't give a damn what you THINK about the music, but the vibe's got to be right. Trust me, I do this for a living, I DO know best.
DJing is a craft, not a skill; it's really not just being able to play a record (or a cd...).
I'm not too cool to listen to the crowd, and give them what they want, be it only partly and in my own way. Give and take, dj's, give and take...
I don't like none of the other dj's on the bill. I like it to be just me, all night long, with the ups and the downs. It's gotta be a journey with a start and an ending. These 2 hour-sets are too short.
Don't bother me, don't talk to me. I'm busy.
I don't care if you scream and shout, you don't even have to dance, just as long as you're having a good time.
I don't want you to dance to the name on the poster, I want you to dance to the music that's playing.
It's gotta be loud and please: let there be bass!
I don't want to act like I'm some superhero who's producing all this chaotic loud noise you hear by throwing my hands up in the air, 'cause I'm too busy getting lost in music.
I don't want you to show up to see me, I want you to come and listen to the music.
Don't expect me to be your leading heavenly father reigning supremely up on the stage, I let great records rule. And you are on your own with them. It's a catchy catchphrase, but God is not a dj, he is the music. Some music. And I am preaching his gospel.
I want you to have a good time. I want you to feel like you should be at this party where I'm selecting the soundtrack. I want you to gloat in the aftermath of this party when you wake up tomorrow. I want you to have a bloody mindblowing uplifting time tonight.
So maybe I'm not such an asshole after all.
Maybe YOU are...
In a pub, you might hear me playing disco and 80's hits. At a festival you might hear me play elektro. In a club it's possibly deephouse and Detroit Techno, or maybe some old funk, or maybe blues, or maybe heavy metal hardrock, or... Mostly it's all of those at the same time. If you're someone trying to get your head around that, than don't even bother.
If you're a party promoter, and you have the need to control exactly what will be played at your party, then connect your iPod to the system. Don't call me, because I will always tap into the vibe of the moment, whatever it is.
If you want a party, then dial now.
Music is music, styles are nothing. I really can't even understand that compulsive categorising, and I have no sympathy for it. If that's your thing: go check out Regi, or your local "progressive experimental minimal breakbeat hardtrance"-dj.
