About Me
JAKE OH BIOGRAPHY
Jake Oh grew up in a house full of soul music. There was Marvin Gay, Stevie Wonder and the music that hit Jake Oh the most was Earth Wind & Fire. Everyday he was sitting with headphones and listening to all of their records, over and over again.
At a age of 8 years, his parents took him to a piano teacher where he started playing classical piano, which he did for several years. But later on, in his teens, Jake wanted to play the music he really liked, so he started playing jazz and funk. At music high school he got even deeper into the piano and started exploring song-writing...
Hey Girl was the first song written by Jake, and it would be the starting point of his songwriting and artistic career. The song was recorded with his band by the time and it came out great! Now, Jake Oh was in love with songwriting and was spending all the time he could in his home studio (actually his room!). There seemed to be no end of songs coming out of his head.
In 2005, Jake decided to record his first official demo, which would be called Money's Disease. He released it only online through his website and put it all over the web. Fortunately the music got discovered! It was David Givens and Mil-Tickit who emailed him on Myspace telling him to get his ass to the States (Chicago) ASAP!
Of course Jake Oh saw this as a great opportunity and stepped on the next plane going to O'Hare International Airport in Chicago in summer 2006.
Ain't nothing better than Chi-town summer time, they say - which is totally true!
Jake fell in love with the city and the people he met.
Mil-Tickit turned out to be a great guy with great connections in the industry. (He produced for Ludacris, Chingy, Shawnna and others.) He was the guy taking Jake Oh around to all radio stations in Chicago (No.1 RnB/Hiphop station WGCI played his song By My Side and did an interview with Jake). Mil-Tickit took Jake to all major artists such as Kanye West, Common, Snoop Dogg.
But the major thing Mil-Tickit did was to take Jake to all the major labels in New York City; Atlantic Records, Universal, Jive, Motown, J Records, Sony, Bad Boy - every single one of them! The good news were that every one of them loved what they heard and wanted more than just one meeting with this soul sensation out of Sweden. (Universal even paid Jake a flight ticket round trip to New York from Stockholm to do a showcase for their staff.)
Since then Jake Oh has released two singles on his own label in Sweden; Reason To Live and Up In The Blue. The swedish radio station NRJ is really pushing Jake and his music by playing it several times a day and the response is fantastic! People love the sounds of Jake Oh and his soulful voice!
Today Jake's working in a tight relationship with his publisher Daniel Larsson (Mr Radar Music) and is writing songs together with Swedish Grammy Award Winning producer Filthy. Jake and Filthy work as a team they call Drop Boys and have released two singles in Japan and they're already making themselves a name over there!
Jake Oh's first full-length album is coming out in Spring 2009.
