About Me

Paul Steven Di Leo (born October 10), aka Pauly D is a Blonde Hair Blue Eyed American-born R&B, Soul, Dance, Jazz, and Adult Contemporary Singer, songwriter, composer, producer, noted for his soulful, sweet, crooning bari-tenor. He is also and established artist (painter) and former model. He has achieved success in the 1990s, as the front man and lead vocalist of the San Francisco based disco group, Imitation of Life and their power hit video & single “Luscious Love.”
Pauly D grew up listening to the soulful sounds of Motown. He was the little boy with a big voice that was always attracted to the sugary sweet sound of Curtis Mayfield, Donny Hathaway and jazz favorites Sarah Vaughan and Eddie Jefferson. Paul D not only has a love for the piano style of Bill Evans but also the harmonic octaves of Wes Montgomery. He loves to re-interpret songs sung by female vocalists in his own style and adores the pop-jazz crossover sound of the great Nancy Wilson.
Pauly D has recorded extensively doing lead tracks for aspiring singers looking for a jazz flare. His scat is impeccable and his presence on stage envelops an audience beyond belief. Being able to cross over from Jazz to neo-soul, Pauly D adds style and grace and a fresh new eloquent approach to songs gone by making them a favorite love again in an adult contemporary fashion.Welcome to 'Late Night", Pauly's new Soulful Groove Dance R&B CD. Turn down the lights and turn up the music for a romantic evening experience you'll enjoy with each play. Creativity is what his life is all about and he hopes you will enjoy his neo-soul expression of classic songs as well as you have enjoyed his club dance music of the 90's.
"Hey Pauly, I enjoyed listening to your version of "Someday". You know I stopped doing the song many years ago because it's so high and I didn't want to change the key. Hearing you sing it in your natural voice has made me want to re-visit the song - well maybe (smile). I wish you all the best..." George Duke
Review of 'Late Night' Pauly D by Swedish Editior Ola Granshagen http://melodic.net/latestReviews.asp
What immediately strikes me is that the arrangements are brilliant and the sound is very good. It sounds very much like a major label production, I’d say. Even though there is a fair share of programmed drums and stuff, it’s made with sounds that are truly close to real instruments. Among the cover songs I’d like to recommend a few. “Maureen” (from SADE) suits Paul’s voice very good and brings a really good version. And the more tempo filled “Never Stop” (originally by THE BRAND NEW HEAVIES) is needed on this CD, since most songs are really soft and mellow. This version also suits Pauly’s voice very fine and he’s actually not far from Boz Scaggs here. Talking Boz Scaggs, there’s even a nice version of his song “Lowdown” among the best songs. This is a fresh album with a lot of warmth... this is really something to check out for soul/westcoast fans.
