About Me

Katarzyna Borek is one of Poland's leading pianists of the young generation. She began studying the piano at the age of 6, taught by her mother Regina Borek and prof. Mariusz Mańkowski at the Primary School of Music in Puck. She also studied the violin taught by prof. Iwona Osuchowska-Sokołek. She continued her education at the Primary School of Music in Gdynia under prof. Łucja Giedrojć (piano) and prof. Barbara Schwarz (violin). She spent the next 12 years under tutelage of the eminent Polish piano player of Hungarian origin - prof. Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń, while attending the Frederic Chopin Secondary School of Music in Gdansk and the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz. Between 2003 and 2007 she attended the Royal Flemish Conservatory of Music in Brussels, studying under prof. Daniel Blumenthal, a famous American pianist and professor, having received The Polish Ministry of Culture and the Flemish Government Scholarship.She honed her skills during numerous master classes led by prof. Menahem Pressler, prof. Dominique Merlet, prof. Evgeny Moguilevsky, prof. Lee Kum Sing, prof. Andrzej Jasiński, prof. Regina Smendzianka, prof. Alexei Nasedkin, prof. Daniel Pollack, prof. Hans Leigraff.Katarzyna Borek has received numerous prizes in many prestigious competitions. She was placed among the 12 finalists of the International Ferruccio Busoni Piano Competition in 2005. She has also been awarded the following prizes: - Recognised as Young New Talent 2009 in Belgium - International Paderewski Piano Competition in Bydgoszcz - 3rd prize, Special Prize for the best Polish participant and Special Prize for the Best Interpretation of Paderewski's Works (1998) - Young Pianists Festival in Siedlce - 1st prize, Audience Award and Special Prize from the President of the Frederic Chopin Society in Germany (1998) - Polish Piano Competition in Warsaw - 1st prize (1998) - Polish Chamber Music Competition in Wrocław 1st prize (1997) - International Frederic Chopin Competition for Young Pianists in Moscow - 5th prize, Honorary Diploma of the Polish Institute in Moscow for the Best Polish Participant in the Final, Special Prize for the Best Interpretation of Chopin's mazurkas (1996) - International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in Gottingen 4th prize (1995) - International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in Szafarnia - 3rd prize (1994) - National Paderewski Piano Competition in Piotrków Trybunalski 1st prize, Special Prize for the Best Interpretation of Paderewski's Works funded by Mrs. Paderewska Chrościcka (1994)She concerted in many concert halls in Poland, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Croatia, China, Vietnam and Peru.
