Myspace Layouts Myspace Generators Myspace LayoutsMyspace LayoutsBabaShem started out (1996) as a conversation with Raphael Lugo and EC laRok. We had been writing tunes on and off over some years. Also played in bands together such as 5 Deep, Catch da Groove, just to name a couple. So we decided to do it again but without any restrictions. If we wanted to play heavy so be it...funky yes!...Reggae...if we felt like it... Jazzy....whatever the song called for lets go there. That was the goal to write the music we like. The mantra was "if we love what we've done, then someone else will". We started rehearsing @ Funkadelic studio NYC(1997). Within a couple months we had the balls to start gigging out. The original line-up lasted till about 1998(Shem). We played all over the NYC club scene and recorded a cd @ Don Newkirk's studio(1998). By the time 1999 rolled around we had a new drummer (Pete Mitchell) and a new front man First Born 7(Eric). That line-up didn't record anything but rehearsal tapes. We did some fun gigs though. That squad lasted for about a year or less. BabaShem the band went into hiatus and Raphael continued with production work still flying the BabaShem flag. 2001 BabaShem rears its head again with Deo-drums, Jazz-bass, Raphael-guitar, Mike V- percussions, E.C- vox. With all the shit going on in the world and different musicians the sound changed some what. More gigs..more band shit... more production. True to form by 2002 Gary G takes the throne behind the kit. More gigs...more band stuff...more production.... .......2008 gathering time !
