Angee Gonzalez

With the recent wave of overnight success stories, R&B starlet Angee Gonzalez has the drive to make it the “old fashioned way”. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, singer/songwriter Angee developed an interest in music at the tender age of 4. During her pre-teen years, she would perform in talent shows in school and around the community. Like many artists, Angee is deep-rooted in the church. She belonged to the Union Baptist Church Choir & "The New Beginning Choir", led by Nathaniel Best (former member of The O'Jays). They were featured on PCTV's "Shane's Corner" and also Cornerstone TV's "His Place". At age 17 she began singing with a local gospel rap group, "The Kingdom Cartel", performing at different church functions. Angee arrived on the karaoke scene in 1999, winning contests monthly. Her voice would often be compared to singer Brandy because it was soft & breathy, yet still very strong.One of her first studio sessions was with Big D of MeanStreet Productions and R&B group, CRAVE. She recorded adlibs and background vocals for a project they were working on. In 2003 she competed in the 2nd Annual Kings & Queens of Karaoke Cabaret and won title “Queen of Karaoke”. That gave her motivation to try out for Season 3 of American Idol, where she would ultimately be turned away like so many. In 2004, she was asked to sing lead for “The Smoke Band”, alongside local singer, Will Manker. The band played weekly at CJ's , a local jazz lounge, as well as play at private events.During the summer of 2005, Angee found out she was pregnant and decided to resign from the band.After taking a year off to care for her daughter Michaelah, Angee was determined to get back on her grind. Her first endeavor would be competing in Tom’s Big Break at his Sky Show in Philadelphia, where she would come in second place. In June 2007, she auditioned for “Pittsburgh Idol” and made it into the grand finale. With her emotion-filled performance of “Dangerously In Love” and a huge amount of online votes, she proved to be “Pittsburgh’s Idol”.As part of her winnings, Angee was given the opportunity to sing “The National Anthem” at PNC Park in August 2007. On Jan. 20, 2008 , Angee recieved a Pittsburgh Hip Hop award for "Best Female Singer". She is currently working on her highly anticipated debut CD "Definition of Me".
