About Me

Raised in Poughkeepsie, New York and now resident of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, Taj Salaam aka Maharaja, has been a key player on the underground hip-hop circuit in New York. Whether it is dominating in battles, free styling on open mic nights or laying it down in the studio, Maharaja is recognized as one of the new controlling, creative, and captivating voices on the scene.Maharaja, the Hindu expression for prince, was most recently highlighted in the 2005 Anniversary Rock Steady MC EOW challenge. His quick wit coupled with his tight flows propelled Maharaja through five rounds and in the end he was crowned The Peoples Champ. In October 2005, one will find an exclusive interview and studio performance of Maharaja on Robert Townsends The Hype. Maharaja is featured as an unsigned Brooklyn artist who will in the short future be a household name.Maharaja currently runs with "Mighty Joe Productions", which consist of Vast Aire of Cannibal Ox, Karniege, and Nathaniel Roberts. He also, receives beats from Gangreen Productions, Raw Key Productions, and Dual Output. Currently, Maharaja is in the lab cooking up some hot treats for the children.
