About Me

I'm going to sum things up very briefly: I am awesome and you should love me. If you do not believe me, then read on. I think that I have provided ample proof to support my previous claim. Have fun! ;-)
My name is Lonnie Charles Best. I am 20 years old and am a lifelong resident of Martinez, GA. I currently attend Augusta State University and am working toward a BA in English.
Hobbies:
My biggest hobbies are writing and reading, drawing, working on computers, playing the drums, and driving. I have always aspired to one day be either an author or a comic book artist, or both, and though I do not plan on going into that field of work as a primary source of income, I do still wish to in some way, shape, or form. I am currently working on a Drama/Romance series of novels titled ...Und die ewige Flamme wird immer Brennen... (which is German for "...And the Eternal Flame Will Burn On..."). The first novel in the series, Junge Liebe (Young Love), is available for purchase (in paperback) through LuLu.com . Its follow-ups, Kameradschaft (Comaraderie), Flug von Engeln (Flight of Angels), and Blutkrawatten (Blood Ties), are currently in the works. I also love to write tech and other short pieces of editorial literature, and occasionally pieces of satirical nature (view my MySpace blog or my tech blog, Counting the Transistors , for examples of my work). I am also the writer/illustrator/webmaster of an online manga called Love, Life, and Pain .
As one can probably gather from my love for writing, I also love to read. This has not always been so, though; up until 2005, I rarely ever read. I have always had a knack for writing, but before late in 2005 I usually would not touch a book, so it is quite a wonder that writing comes naturally to me. I have grown quite fond of reading, though, and what I most enjoy reading are drama/sci-fi/fantasy novels and non-fiction (usually in the form of computer-related books), though my absolute favorite author is Erich Maria Remarque (best known for his book Im Westen nichts Neues, or All Quiet on the Western Front). Douglas Adams (of Hitchhiker's Guide fame) probably comes in a fairly close second.
Building and fixing computers is one of my favorite hobbies. I own a multitude of computers (I currently own 8), but the main computer that I use for gaming is a (highly outdated) home-built system with an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice Core CPU currently over-clocked to 2.20 GHz with a 1 GHz FSB and 128 KB/512 KB L1/L2 caches, 1024 MB of DDR SD-RAM, a GeForce 6600 GT AGP 8x Video Card with 128 MB GDDR3 VRAM, and 200 GB of HDD space. I love playing computer games and going to/hosting LAN parties; my absolute favorite PC game is Battlefield 1942, though I also love playing Battlefield Vietnam and Battlefield 2, Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, F.E.A.R., Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Tournament 2004, and the classic DOOM series. Also in the area of computers, I somewhat enjoy coding HTML and C++ (at least, what I know of each.)
I am a self-taught drummer and have been playing since March of 2004. The styles of music I am most capable of playing are Rock (because any moron with rhythm can play it) and general Metal, as well as a little bit of Death Metal. My crowning achievement in drumming so far was my finals qualification for a local World's Fastest Drummer (WFD) competition with a score of 1013 BPM on double bass.
I play drums and perform vocal duties for The Dark Elements of Palerpron . Wayne and I are now working on new material and are seeking a few more dudes and/or dudettes to fill the missing slots. If you're a guitarist, bassist, vocalist, or keyboardist, and you're interested, contact me through MySpace.
I currently use a 7-piece double bass setup with 9 cymbals. You can get an idea of what my set looks like from my pictures, but they're not always current so it's just an idea. If you have any inquiries (such as what equipment I use), feel free to ask me.
Though I'm definitely no expert on the subject, I love cars and driving. Ever since I bought my first car, a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire, back in 2003, I have been in love with driving - particularly driving fast and like a maniac. For years I have been obsessed with Dodge Vipers, and to this day my dream car remains a Dodge Viper GTS-R, but I love cars in general, and learning new things about them. My current ride, and one of my biggest obesessions, is a 2003 Shinsen Version Mazda MX-5 Miata.
Lifestyle:
I do not smoke, drink (aside from the occassional beer), or do drugs. Because of the background of my parents (who were both heavy drug addicts) and my proper upbringing by my adoptive parents (my grandparents), I hold strong beliefs against all three of these things. If you do any of them, I will not necessarily dislike you, but I will most certainly not engage in any of these activities myself.
I'm a huge health nut, and I try my best to eat a balanced, healthy diet, as well as to advocate the importance of a healthy lifestyle. In a bit of a contrast, though, I am a food addict, and I love pretty much all food and trying new things. I also love to cook - particularly healthy variants of common meals that I don't normally get to eat.
Most people think I'm a crazy guy because, well, I am. I'm fun-loving and if you are a kind, funny, intelligent person, then chances are I will enjoy spending time with you. If you are adverse to cussing, then chances are that you will either dislike me or become rather annoyed by me because of my incessant need to spout out profanities. I know how to hold back when in situations that call for it, but outside of those situations I tend to let words flow. I apologize in advance for my cursing, but it is probably the hardest habit for me to break.
Religion:
I consider myself to be a Christian, but my beliefs are held in Creation Evolution, meaning that I believe God created the universe, but also that humans came about through evolution. I also hold a strong faith in science, and therefore will question many things about Christianity and how they hold true against cold hard evidence. I believe in God and the afterlife, but I'm not afraid to admit that neither may actually exist simply because we don't have proof of either, and therefore I can do nothing more than choose to believe it. I also do not believe in the Holy Bible as the word of God, because too many things in it don't add up; therefore, I view it simply as a basis of religion and as a historical work; as well as a work of fiction and a "storybook." If you have any questions about what I believe, feel free to ask me, but don't expect to get in a big discussion about religion, and definitely do not try to force your beliefs on me. I know what I believe and I'm set in my beliefs, so don't bother trying to change that.
Music:
If you check the Music section to the left, you'll see what kind of music I like to listen to.
If I happen to say that I hate so-and-so genre of music or something like that, DO NOT CALL ME CLOSE-MINDED. Think about the meaning of close-minded before you open your mouth and accuse me of being so. If I don't like a specific genre of music it's because I've already heard enough from that genre to make the decision that I don't like it. If I were close-minded, I would never give any other genre of music aside from metal any chance, but I do, and then find that I don't like whatever it is. I do like some music that exists outside the realm of metal, but to me, metal is the only really good genre of music out there. If you wish to know why, you can also talk to me about it. Unlike with religion, I don't mind getting in a big discussion about music. Music isn't a holy subject and is also not nearly as controversial as religion, so I'm not averse to talking about it.
I absolutely love going to shows and concerts. There's nothing like the experience you get from it or the energy involved. I haven't been going to shows for that long, but in my time I have seen the following signed acts live: All Shall Perish, All That Remains, Arsis, At All Cost, Avenged Sevenfold, Chimaira, Coheed & Cambria, Dark Tranquillity, Dead to Fall, Death Before Dishonor, DevilDriver, DragonForce, Ed Gein, End of All, The Faceless, From A Second Story Window, The Haunted, He is Legend, In Flames, Into Eternity, In This Moment, It Dies Today, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Ligeia, Light This City, Nights Like These, Poison the Well, Scar Symmetry, Shadows Fall, Slipknot, Still Remains, Suffocation, Suicide Silence, Through the Eyes of the Dead, Too Pure to Die, Trivium, Walls of Jericho, With Dead Hands Rising, and Zao.
People:
I love my family and my friends more than anything, even though I may not show it all the time. My closest friends to me in the world are Ralph, Matt, Jacob, Tasha, and Land, but I do hold all of my friends dear to me, no matter how I may treat any of them. Love and friendship are something you should always try to hold on to.
Contact:
My AIM screen name is superdedooperboy, but I rarely use the program anymore these days, so don't expect to get ahold of me on there unless you're extremely lucky. You can contact me via email at [email protected], or you can also reach me at my alternate email address, [email protected]. If you want to contact me via my cell phone, you'll have to ask me for my number.
