About Me

If I ever get to feeling a little down, I remember that the pattern of hair on my chest vaguely resembles a pirate ship.

My Interests

Words and pictures. Psychology, culture, and how people get along with one another. Hygiene (most days).

I'd like to meet:

So what if they're not the most insanely virtuosic, most original, end-all-be-all musicians ever in the history of the world? I like the Beatles, dammit. Especially George Harrison. RIP, Sir.

Music:

Do you really want to get me started? I like it quite a lot, and in the interest of time, we should probably leave it at that. I play and write some, watch some, record a good bit, and buy a lot. If I play it and it has words, someone else wrote them.

Movies:

I do not envy you the headache you will have when you awake. But for now, rest well and dream of large women.

Television:

Giggles, grins, food for thought. I like PBS, TV Land, Comedy Central, SciFi, and Cartoon Network. Mostly Fraggle Rock, MASH, MST3K, My Life on the D-list with Kathy Griffin, and The Twilight Zone, and reruns of Saturday Night Live from about 89 to 97. Conan O'Brien is my late-night guy.

Books:

Richard Crawford's Introduction to American Music. Escaping the Delta, by Elijah Wald. The Great Shark Hunt, by Hunter S. Thompson. This is Your Brain on Music, by Daniel J. Levitin. The Discovery of Dragons, by Graeme Base.

Heroes:

This week: Otis Redding, Garrison Keillor, Bill Moyers, Frank Zappa, Boo Radley, and Irving Berlin.

radio dont have to die

I have a strange relationship with writing. I never have had any special passion for it. I'm not a really good storyteller, partly because I'm always embarassed about something. What I do have is the ...

I've been listening over and over to Donovan's Greatest Hits, which I haven't played since I was fifteen. It took me a long time to appreciate "Season of the Witch," which has something like three and...

I like to cut grass. Don't think I've ever felt bigger than when I'm on a lawnmower. I'm an artist, a sculptor with two blades spinning under my arse. Actually, there are four. I wonder if they could ...
