Known for his clever sense of melody, diverse style which allows him to pull a rabbit out of a ‘strat’, tremendous work ethic and his extraordinary love of his instrument, Los Angeles’ Ruben Reza is a guitarist like no other.
Ruben recently completed recording ‘iOpener’, a CD containing three songs that represent a sampling of the many facets of music he creates. The first track entitled ‘Opener’ is a heavy rocker which delivers Ruben’s aggressive side via haunting and hypnotic themes. ‘Serenata Di Roxanna’, track two, is a flamenco inspired number perfect for driving up the coast with the top down. ‘Lizard’ then drenches you with sexy blues-based grooves. The final cut, ‘My Love’, is a classic jazz ballad with enduring melodies and tasty changes.
Ruben has been playing guitar for over 25 years. He bought his first guitar from a friend at the age of 14. “I didn’t know anything about the guitar at all; I dug the chrome pickups, knobs and switches. I thought it just looked so cool.†He was immediately seduced by the sound coming out of his 8-track-player-turned-guitar amplifier. This began a relentless pursuit to listen, learn, and emulate anything and everything he heard. Within three weeks Ruben joined his first band and hasn’t stopped since.
He received a call back from an audition for the lead guitar spot in Ozzy Osbourne’s band in ’94 and has also recorded with members of the Brian Setzer Orchestra. In addition, performers/artists he has recorded with include:
