There are many people I admire, but my grandparents are probably my biggest heros. My paternal grandparents lived through the occupation of Holland and participated in the resistance against the Nazis during the prime of their lives. They took great risks and were lucky to survive when others who took similar risks lost their own lives. They also saw many friends disappear forever to unknown fates.While less exciting, my maternal grandparents survived a homesteading lifestyle as young children and later purchased what was the first commercial filbert orchard in Oregon as well as running a grocery store. They worked hard to run these two enterprises as well as raise their children and always gave more to others than they asked in return.
