I play in a few musical projects ( Cats in Paris , Amanaplan ) and get to perform a lot with the violin, synth and voicy, and although it is very fulfilling there is something to be said for the introspective and self-involved nature of solo material that provides you with a different artform altogether, far removed from the sharing, social aspects of being in a band. By recording in the dark, alone I can produce slow, hypnotic, thoughtful music direct from my thoughtflow, something I simply can't muster (and don't even want to do) with my peers.
Solo work acts almost as an antidote to ensemble work, and vice versa. I recommend it to anyone as part of a healthy musical diet.
I'm starting to do Sparkles gigs again so if anyone wants a set performed then please get in touch.
