David is a native of Lorain, Ohio, born to Mr. Sammy L. and Mrs. Dorothy Smith. Music has been a vital element of his childhood. At the age of seventeen, David came to South Carolina to visit his family for two weeks. Soon after, he remained in Sumter and became a faithful member and musician of Grace Cathedral Ministries, Incorporated (formerly known as Grace Cathedral Church of God in Christ). In 1992, he became the Chief Musician of the Grace Cathedral Music Ministry holding a full time position, where he yet serves. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Education from Morris College. He is active in civic, community, and fraternal activities. He maintains active membership at Grace Cathedral Ministries that has now expanded to Greenville, South Carolina. Other organizations include Delta Kappa Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated and South Carolina’s Music Guild.
