This may be news to you, or it may not. Chris, Greg, Ben, Owens and I have recently decided to stop making music together as After Letting Go. We all still make music together, but it rarely leaves our practice spaces due to alcohol and drug induced memory loss.
Here's what After Letting Go DID NOT do:
We did not search for a way to break the mold, push the boundaries of any set genre (i.e. metal, hardcore, rock, emo, or any of these previous with the suffix "core" comfortably placed after them.)
We did not make any money. period.
We we're not better than your band.
We did not play sober. ever.
Here's what After Letting Go DID do:
We attempted to create a fun, energetic atmosphere at shows that was/is not currently present music scene.
By teaming up with friends such as Farewell, the {infamous} Brandy Alexander, Scarlet Undercover, Firenze, The Last Regard, My Hero is Me, S. Burns, Diminshed by You, and many others - We attempted help form Greensboro and it's surrounding area into a place where fun and love were valued over any other aspect of life.
We made music that reflected this attitude, and we had an incredible time doing it.
As we drunkenly and not-so-gracefully make our exit from the local music scene, we only hope that somewhere along the way, in a club, in a basement, in a community center, or through your computer - we made some sort of impact. Even if it was just one toe tap, one smile, or even one scowl.
For those who do care, i solemnly promise that in the future, there will be more music, and definetely more memories.
Now, go support your local musicians, no matter how much they suck, because if there is one thing i have learned, it's not about who is better or who is signed, it's about enriching our city with music and everything that music stands for.
And drinking, it's also about drinking.
Much Love and Appreciation,
Kevin Saxton.
