What began as a relationship between a homebuyer and a builder, eventually became a cancelled contract, and then ultimately resulted in the foundation of a music ministry. It may seem like a strange way to form a band, but then again, God has a knack for the unnatural. That is something the members of Seven Times Silver know with certainty. Vocalist Kevin Mullins and guitarist Jeffrey Aybar had the opportunity to talk several times about their mutual love for God and music in 2005 while Kevin was building what was supposed to be Jeff’s new home. Nevertheless, because of delays in the sale of Jeff’s older home, the contract on the newly constructed home lapsed and the house was purchased by someone else. However, Kevin and Jeff continued to talk periodically about their shared passions, Jeff bought a new home from a different builder, and by the spring of 2006 they realized God’s true reason for uniting them had nothing to do with houses. They wrote a few songs together and began contacting other musicians they knew had a love for God. Guitarist Luke Lauritzen, bassist Brad Massey, keyboardist Jeff Williams, and drummer David Frith came aboard and Seven Times Silver was born. The members give all credit to God for the band’s creation, great chemistry and creative songwriting, but they pray that it is their listeners who receive the ultimate blessing from God’s work through them. “This is a ministry,†they insist. Their intention is to, “praise God and spread the message of Jesus Christ to as many people as their music can reach.†Their name is derived from Psalm 12:6 which says, “The promises of the Lord are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace of clay, purified seven times.†Pure is also a great word to describe the music of Seven Times Silver. Their sound is fresh and honest, with layered guitars, strong piano fills, soulful vocals and cutting lyrics about God’s truth and love, and man’s depravity. Their live worship rocks, rouses, praises God and challenges each member of the audience to seek a more intimate relationship with Christ. Have a listen!
