About Me

I am the publisher of the Ibbetson Street Press of Somerville, Mass. We publish a literary journal and books of poetry by local and national authors. Most recently we have published: "Blood Soaked Dresses" Gloria Mindock, "Manufacturing America" by Lisa Beatman, and "Promise Supermarket," Elizabeth Quinlan http://ibbetsonpress.comI have recently been included in "Inside the Outside..." a major anthology of American avant-garde poets http://www.presapress.comMy work has also been anthologized in "City of Poets: 18 Boston Voices" (Singing Bones Press), "I Refused to Die," edited by Susie Davidson, "The Best of Compost Magazine" (Zephyr Press), Out of the Blue Writers Unite (Crooked River Press) "Chaos Theory" ( Down-in-the-Dirt) and others..A poetry collection of mine "Wrestling With My Father" (Yellow Pepper Press) that deals with my late father Lawrence J. Holder, has been released in Nov. 2005. It was a pick of the month in The Small Press Review. My recent collections are: "Of All the Meals I Had Before" (Cervena Barva Press--2007) and "No One Dies At The Au Bon Pain" ( sunnyoutside---2007) Poems from both collections were nominated for Pushcart Prizes. In 2008 my collection "The Man in the Booth in the Midtown Tunnel" was released by the Cervena Barva Press. It was a pick of the month in the Small Press Review July/Aug 2008My taped interviews with contemporary American poets are archived at Harvard, University of Buffalo, and Poets' House (NYC), libraries. I am currently the Arts/Editor for THE SOMERVILLE NEWS (http://www.thesomervillenews.com,) and the director of the Newton Free Library Poetry Series Newton, Mass. My own books are collected at Harvard, Brown, Yale and University of Buffalo libraries, as well as Poets House in NYC.My poetry and prose have been published in magazines and journals around the country and internationally. Most recently: the new renaissance, The Endicott Review (Endicott College), PRESA, The Cafe Review, Rattle, Main St. Rag, The Boston Globe Magazine, Poetry Motel, Poesy, Manifold (U.K.), Quercus Review, Skylark (Purdue Univ.), Dudley Review (Harvard University), Sub-Terrain ( Canada) Microbe ( Belgium), The Boston Globe, The Harvard Mosaic (Harvard University), Microbe ( Belgium), Poetica, Voices Israel, Istanbul Literary Review, and many more...I currently teach poetry workshops, and I am the co-founder of "The Bagel Bards," a group of poets/writers/novelists/playwrights that meet in Davis Square in Somerville, Mass. every Saturday at 9AM at the Au Bon Pain.My cable access TV program "Poet to Poet/Writer to Writer" airs on Somerville Community Access TV. I am the book review editor for the Wilderness House Literary Review http://www.whlreview.com , and was a founding member of the Wilderness House Literary Retreat where we have hosted such guests as the late poet Robert Creeley, Hallie Ephron, Lois Ames, Michael Curtis ( Atlantic Fiction Editor), and others...I co-founded The Somerville News Writers Festival with Tim Gager. We have hosted such writers as Franz Wright (Pulitzer Prize- "Walking to Martha's Vineyard"), Andre Dubus lll, Afaa Michael Weaver ( Pushcart Prize--2008), Tom Perrotta, Steve Almond, Sue Miller ("The Good Mother") In 2007 Robert Pinsky ( former U.S. Poet Laureate) was our "Ibbetson Street Lifetime Achievement Award" recipient at the festival.
