The Boat is an architectural landmark located in Silverlake that borders Hollywood and Los Feliz. The facility, built for live radio music broadcasts in 1941, was used as a private professional studio until acquired by The Dust Brothers in 1997. Completely renovated by The Dust Brothers, The Boat offers a fantastic combination of the latest technology with an incredible choice of classic recording equipment. The studio has a large recording area (approx 1500 sq ft) with 15 foot high ceilings and a minimum of three isolation booths.
The 54 input custom Neve console (designed in 1969) began its career at Sir George Martin’s Air Studios in London, and the studio is a George Augspurger design. There is an impressive collection of vintage Neumann,Telefunken and Royer microphones – as well as other standard favorites. The control room has an excellent selection of the best outboard equipment that includes Neve, Urei, API, Universal Audio, Fairchild, Pultec, Eventide, Summit Audio, Teletronix, Lexicon, AMS, SSL, GML and DBX - with Urei, Genelec, Yamaha, Westlake and Auratone monitoring powered by Bryston amps.
The studio is equipped with a modern kitchen, comfortable lounge, outside upper deck, digital cable, high speed DSL and wireless internet access.
The Boat is located in the exciting area of Silverlake - with stores and fine restaurants within walking distance.
There is nearby affordable long and short term accomodation – and the studio is close to Hollywood, Downtown, Burbank, Glendale and Griffith Park with very easy access to the major LA freeways ( 2, 5, 10, 101, 110, 134, 710).
