About Me

It's a beautiful fate, take yourself on a blind date
Substitute your self-hate, everything else can wait
It's a beautiful fate, requiem for all that's fake
Let yourself celebrate, everything else can wait

It wasn't just coincidence when singer/songwriter/chanteuse, India, literally ran head on into stranger B. Rhyan running down an airport escalator rushing to catch her flight. With profuse apologies the future seed of the Astronauts was unknowingly planted.
Three years later B. Rhyan, accomplished writer/guitarist, again met India backstage at one of her performances. It was in another lonely city, another funky club.
Mesmerized by her siren like singing and déjà vu presence he sensed the powerful potential of their combined talents. The seeds now planted soon began to fructify. It was only later they recalled their original brush with destiny – a fortuitous & beautiful fate.
Chasing their shared muse, they lived in a host of cities worldwide including Detroit (winning best band, best female vocalist, best writers in the Motor City Music Awards), Los Angeles, New York (recording for DJ Jeannie Hoppers label LIQUID SOUND LOUNGE), London, Dublin - even as far as New Dehli.
India's / Rhyan's right frontal lobes became thoroughly saturated with a myriad of influences, fueling their writing and feeding their sound. They imbibed multi-cultural styles and philosophies, weaving them into a compelling musical tapestry.
Writing/recording songs driven by an electro, jazzy sensibility, served on a platter of catchy, eclectic pop, they found their musical dharma: Urban - electro - organica. Compared to a combination of bands such as Zero7, Thievery Corporation, Jamiroquai, Radiohead and artists like Joni Mitchell, Amy Winehouse and Bebel Gilberto, the Astronauts naturally create outside the box while pointing their antennas deep into inner space.
Astronauts of Antiquity = your mystery date. They entice you to leave behind limited conceptions of self and music. AoA invite you to celebrate life in a deeper sense. Everything else can wait.
"Musically, they are a futuristic travelog that elucidates the past. India's hauntingly beautiful vocals spiral around B. Rhyan's timelessly inventive rhythms. Numerous passersby were so mesmerized by the sounds they heard through the open doorway, that they kept filing in and demanding to know "Who is this band?" Believe me – this NEVER happens on the Bowery!" (Micheline –manager, CBGB's 313 Gallery, NYC).
Revel in the AoA sound and relish a pot of funky-luscious neo-soul. Add a pinch of Indian. Brazilian spice. Toss & serve over a warm bed of jazzy, eclectic pop.
"Truth be known, AoA is a very savvy, pop band in disguise." (The Spectator - Raleigh, NC) "Their vision is to offer up the ancient on a modern platter of undeniable tunes, catchy yet subtle like the muse. "Inventive electro lounge... mesmerizing songcraft!" (The Independent - Chapel Hill)
Although a commanding performer, there is a tender yet powerful purity in India's voice. "Some of the most self-assured, ultra-cool vocal stylings. India's silky-smooth voice commands your brief attention span like beautiful blue swirls of bar smoke." (The Spectator)
She grew up feeding her musical soul with the smoky sounds of artists as diverse as Billie Holiday, the Beatles and Annie Lenox. Her partner, B. Rhyan, lays down stellar guitar atmospheres and shares the songwriting with India. You can hear a bit of Jimi, a bit of Wes, rich textures and colors, less is more, that's the best.
Together they share stage and studio with a renegade band of musical journeymen of the highest order. The product grooves with undeniable grace. "Transcendent yet funky... open your mind, you won't be disappointed!" (DMA) "Warm and enveloping... bands like this are VERY few and far between" (URB) “AoA superbly delivers... always rocks the house!" (Time Out London)
Astronauts of Antiquity invite you into their orbit. It may feel strange yet familiar. Never mind if it's too early or if it's too late. You may never look at life the same. Guaranteed - it'll be a beautiful fate.
