I like to read when I have time; mostly non-fiction (I know "boring"!). However, surprisingly, I grew up an avid (ok, obsessed) reader of Conan novels; the original Robert E. Howard versions being my favorites, but the L. Sprague DeCamp, et. al. versions were a close second. I think I owned every copy that had ever been printed, that is until my husband insisted on getting a doberman puppy, which just HAD to decide to chew up my beloved collection!!! I think I only completely lost one or two though, one is still readable although it's full of holes. Also I like to try to stay "fit" although I'm a little too lazy to be as fit as I want to be...time and gravity are kicking my butt, but I try to keep my lifestyle from helping the two of them out. When I can afford it, I take Wing Chun Kung Fu lessons from the most AWESOME Sifu in the world! Bruce Lee learned Wing Chun from Yip Man and so did William Cheung. William Cheung is my Sifu's Sifu (if that makes any sense to anyone, lol). I mean, my Sifu is SOOO cool, not only was he in Vietnam, but I just found out that he once had three wives...ALL AT ONCE!!! It's a LONG and interesting story that I've just been made privy to. He's a very interesting guy, my Sifu.I dabble in a little politics and love to learn about other cultures and meet people from other parts of the world.Anyway, that's all for now.
Jesus, OF COURSE! and everyone in the "Hall of Faith" (found in Hebrews). I would have liked to have known Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Also I would have liked to have met Bruce Lee, he was awesome and WAY before his time. Elvis, Michael Jackson before he got wacky, Carry Grant and Katherine Hepburn.
Ok, time to change this....the comment about Tucus was getting creepy since now since I wrote that he's dating my daughter and will probably someday be my son-in-law. CREEEPY!!I don't necessarily have a particular "style" of music that I like, I like some of my kids' "Metalcore" music (I don't know the names at the moment, I'll ask my kids and get back to you on that one) as well as some opera, oldies, classical, etc... OF COURSE I LOVE "Bringing Down Broadway"!!! I also like the Deftones, Cake, the Second Chapter of Acts (a 70's contemporary Christian group), Andrea Bocelli (all except for his latest pop album...didn't like that one too well), Led Zepplin, the Eagles; in fact a LOT of late 60's and 70's bands, like Bad Company, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, etc... sometimes I'm not sure if I like them as much as I like the memories they invoke, and there are many sweet memories tied to them...getting old sucks!
I love movies! I really liked "Troy", even though I'm a little disappointed in Brad Pitt for dumping Jennifer for Angelina JoLips, I think this was one of his best films...just when I was thinking he had lost his sex appeal...sheesh! In this movie he was amazing! That first fight where he jumps up to plunge his sword into that giant's back/neck...was some of the best movie footage I have ever seen! Anyway, The Road Home (foreign film) made me cry for 3 days, so did "It's a Beautiful Life" (another foreign film). These two movies are excellent and of course VERY SAD. I loved "A Beautiful Mind" and "Gladiator"...anything with Johnny Depp - except a couple (Ed Wood is one, I think and I can't remember the name of the other one). Ummm, "The Thirteenth Warrior", the "Zorro" movies, "Ocean's Eleven", "A River Runs Through It", and only the first half of "Dances with Wolves" and "Legends of the Fall"; both of those movies I can only bear to watch the first half because the second half is so traumatic and sad.
I mostly watch the History Channel and stuff like that, I know, again, I'm looking more and more like a dork...but hey, I don't have a problem with that!
Sheesh, where do I start? I have this little obsession with books...some of my all time favorites though are of course the Bible; "Man's Search for Meaning" by Victor Frankl; "Who's to Say?" by Normal Melchert; "Losing the Race" by John McWhorter; "Character and Cops" by Edwin DeLattre; "Negotiating Responsibility in the Criminal Justice System" by various authors but Edited by Jack Kamerman...there's plenty more, but those are my all-time favorites, WHICH of course I think should be mandatory reading for every human being on the face of the planet...and then there are the Conan novels...which are in a league all their own, lol. A person can only really, rightfully, enjoy Conan before they turn about 20, but I'll give guys until their 30th birthday, no offense, but you grow up much later than women do, it's a proven fact. After that Conan is a little bit too crazy and radical for the adult imagination. BEFORE that though you can learn a lot about courage, strength and honor by reading about Conan the Cimmerian. At least that's my opinion.
One of my biggest heroes is my pastor, Bob Holt, he's truly an amazing person and deserves to be looked up to.
