Create Your Own //////////////////////////////////////////////////2001: A Space Odyssey is an influential 1968 science fiction film directed by Stanley Kubrick. The screenplay, written by Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke, deals with themes of human evolution and technology, artificial intelligence, and extraterrestrial life. The film is notable for its scientific realism, pioneering use of special effects, and reliance upon ambiguous yet provocative imagery and sound in place of traditional techniques of narrative cinema. The film received a wide spectrum of positive and negative reviews upon release. Today it is widely recognized among critics as one of the greatest films ever made. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, winning one (for visual effects), and won the Kansas City Film Critics Circle awards for Best Director and Best Film of 1968. In 1991, the film was deemed "culturally significant" by the United States Library of Congress and was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.
Did I ever tell you I just absolutely LOVE the 80's? Well, if you didn't already know, funky teased hair styles, blue eye shadow, big sweaters, tight jeans, classic sneakers and leg warmers are the kinds of things that send me on a much cherished journey back to the care-free days of my childhood. Speaking of childhood, I always rooted for the "bad guys" in those 80's cartoon favorites, such as Magneto from the X-MEN, Destro & Baroness from G.I. JOE and Skeletor from HE-MAN and the Masters of the Universe. I've just always felt like the "bad guys" were always soo much cooler and had the better/stronger abilities and equipment. Omega-Red, Spiral, Joker, Clown, Sephiroth...I'm a bit off topic now, considering two of those didn't exist in the 80's, but bad guys fucking rock, dude! They always have the stronger character, the bigger personality, the major conflict...go figure. All hail the antagonist!
