About Me

My name is Joan Avant- Rossi. I am a Dallas musician. I started guitar and drums at an early age but then went to the violin. Violin is what brought me to music school. It was there that I realized I did not want to be a classical musician, even though I loved the music and still do. I just didn't like the idea of practicing for hours on end for a single event/audition/performance that could either make or break you. As I broke away from the classical world I performed drums/electric violin/ and guitar in a few bands and this was fun. The band I was with the longest was my family based hard rock band Maharajah where I played drums. However my musical journey left me in a strange place... all alone. I had been in musical groups in school and then in bands and after Maharajah broke up I found myself a loner. What can you do by yourself as a drummer or violinist when no one is beating down your door to be in their band? The next step led me to electronic music. I have always loved electronic music but have been a bit perplexed about how to produce it since I did not own a drum machine or a phat synth. It was then that (my boyfriend then/husband now) introduced me to Logic 7 powered alongside the Pro Tools interface M Box and a cute midi keyboard/controller. It was here that a whole new world of songwriting was introduced to me. I no longer have to worry about people not showing up for rehearsal or creative differences because it's all me. Nevertheless this is a new experience for me. I encourage criticism and comments because I am more concerned about being better each time... each new song.
