The cylindrical illuminated base of the tower features "Imagine Peace" messages in 24 languages engraved on a Wishing Well Wall filled with half a million capsules containing messages of hope from people around the world. These messages have been pouring in since Ono announced the mailing address (IMAGINE PEACE TOWER, PO Box 1009, Reykjavik, Iceland) at her website and are still being accepted.
At night, an ethereal "peace light" is beamed skyward, representing the world's hope for peace - John Lennon's unfulfilled dream.
The Imagine Peace Tower will shine nightly every year from October 9 through December 8, the anniversary of Lennon's tragic death in 1980.
