About Me

Garrett Pierce’s work has been regarded as literary and haunting with tasteful arrangements and a voice that soars through pages of lyrics. There is no doubt that the writers like Henry Miller, and Richard Brautigan have influenced his structure, a style of free-formed imagery that springs between the bleak and the optimistic. Musically, the songs often begin with the light strumming of an acoustic guitar, developing itself into a lush piece with the addition of electric guitars, stings, and horns. His last release, Like A Moth, was recorded in the bay area with help from Matt Bauer, Jolie Holland, Safa Shokrai (The Drift), Jake Mann, Payam Bavafa (Sholi). Local and international press have been a supporter of his music ever since. "Armed with a melancholy songwriting muse and a sweeping vocal range, Pierce comes across as a little untamed, but exhilarating in his willingness to take unpredictable and wild risks with his songs and performances. Filled with the sort of oblique yet emotionally satisfying wordplay that is reminiscent of a Mukrami novel – Santa Cruz Metro. “Like A Moth becomes both haunting and heartbreaking when Pierce's minimalist arrangements give way to stunningly poetic lyrics – SF Guardian”. “He manages a mix of the delicate, the folky, and the starry eyed”- SF WeeklyOver the last few years Garrett has embarked on several tours, and collaborated with some of the west coast’s most respected songwriters. Independent radio stations (KEXP, KDVS, KUSF) and in Europe have kept his songs in heavy rotation. He is currently working on his next full-length album. Recorded in Columbia, CA in the foothills of the Sierras, the new record features a world of string arrangements, trash-can percussion, and analog sounds.
