About Me

Modern B Boy is Back!

The club founded by Daddy Rich, that ran at the suitably illicit and now deceased venue of The Clinic in Chinatown’s Gerrard Street saw a messy world of cobwebbed funk, raw soul and hip hop, with luminaries such as Quantic, Freddy Fresh, Eddie Piller, Punks Jump Up, Breakin’ Bread and Memphis Industries’ head honcho, Ollie, popping down to spin alongside Rich. The plan was simple – If 6 were 9 - If Mods were B-Boys… well… maybe not that simple, but that’s the point.

A new night at a rather special old, yet new venue in London Town EC1. Coming at you LIKE A FOX THROUGH A FOREST FIRE!

Send us your music! If you make music and we like it, we’ll put it up here on the Modern B Boy playlist rotation. You might even get a set at the club. “If the music’s nice, play it twice, if the music’s sweet, go for the instant repeat”! [email protected]

Sounds Like: Modern B Boy is Back!Friday 30th November@ The Cock Tavern (opposite Fabric)Eddie Piller (Head of Acid Jazz Records)Daddy Rich (Modern B Boy)Graeme Very (Happiness Stans / Happy Blues)Well, it’s taken a while, Rich taking time out to mess around in the studio, supervising music for TV, shouting a bit and most importantly finding the right venue for Modern B Boy’s resurrection. Well, achequoala, it’s here! The Cock Tavern is one of those drinking den little twists in London’s twilight. As Time Out coin – “Thanks to special licensing hours, the Cock Tavern has long been a bastion of beer for breakfast for the traders and butchers of Smithfield's. It's a subterranean dive, by which we mean an unreconstructed gem. A cross between a pub and a greasy spoon, the place is decorated with pictures of the market through the ages and old butchers' signs” -Time Out. What better place to throw a little bit of Brooklyn bounce and mix it with some Northern soul, and boogaloo funk? What’s more, there’s never been a club night here! A perfect antedote to the relentless turnaround of Hoxton’s minimal bars with names that seem dated a year after they open.Expect raw 60’s soul, block party quirky leftfield hip hop that causes smiles and cobwebbed funk.Modern B Boy Friday 30th November 9pm-2am The Cock Tavern, East Polutry Avenue, Smithfield Meat Market, London, EC1 (Opposite Fabric) Free before 10pm, £5 after. Thanks to everyone who came down to the November night! Keep an eye on the site for confirmed details of the next date...
