Mariachi Las Alte..as is an all-female mariachi group making waves across the United States. Under the direction of Valerie Vargas, Las Alte..as is made up of musicians ranging in age from 18 to 25. The group features complete instrumentation -- violins, trumpets, a guitarron, vihuela, and a standard guitar creating a full mariachi sound. Their colorful trajes de charro and signature vocal harmonies combined with their diverse repertoire and dazzling stage presence appeals to generations of all kinds. Eager to share their Mexican heritage, Las Alte..as take their name from the mountainous area in Jalisco, Mexico known as los altos or “the heights†– the very homeland of mariachi music. And, indeed, Las Alte..as are destined to reach the heights of their profession!Considered Texas’ finest female mariachi, Las Alte..as not only performs throughout Texas, but they also tour the country to such prestigious events and venues as the Viva El Mariachi Festival in San Diego, California, the annual Fiesta Mexicana in Topeka, Kansas and the Mariachi Spectacular in Albuquerque, New Mexico. 2005 and 2006 have been outstanding years for Las Alte..as. In Houston, Texas, they mesmerized a crowd of 67,000 fans at the annual Go Tejano Mariachi Competition, where they proudly brought home 1st Place for the second consecutive year. They were invited to perform for the 3rd year at the world famous MARIACHI USA Festival at the Hollywood Bowl and performed along side Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan at the National LULAC Convention in Little Rock, Arkansas. This extraordinary Mariachi continues to shine as they move towards five years of existence and success.In a predominately male industry, this all female Mariachi has made a unique mark in the mariachi world.
