About Me
The following myspace site has been set up as a substitute for the Mercury Legion page set up by my drummer and the website set up by my Guitarist. Despite the fact we are all very close friends, my Christian beliefs have led to contentions over albums, songs and websites, thus this is the Christian conservative myspace page for our fans of such beliefs and practices. As many of you already know, we have decided to call it a day and will be playing our final show at Fannies on May 30th so I hope you will all be there for our final blowout. It should be a lot of fun and we are all bringing our video cameras to film the entire night for a DVD documentary called BANDS OF BROTHERS where we will be sharing stories, retrospectives and performances regarding what we feel was the real heart and sould of San Diego Hardcore featuring eight of the bands who made it happen. Anyways, on with the history segment: Mercury Legion was formed as an offshoot of the bands Divided We Fall, Chump, and X Minus One, using the same songs but also adding new ones in the vein of our favourite punk rock band R.K.L. (minus the pro drug and alcohol forum they chose) and bands that I really liked (The Surfaris,The Diamonds, The Beach Boys,The Bel-Airs,etc.). Alexandria the Cheerleader and myself (Bryce Fraser) originally began it under the currently playing band at the time, X MINUS ONE (named after the classic radio show), and the first recordings were done in 1997. In 1998, Kurt Buske joined up under the banner FRATERNITY ROW where we recorded a 9 song demo. In 1999, Matt Otavka came on board under the banner THE BLUECOATS where we recorded a seven song demo and a five song demo after that (12 songs. Do the the math!). Later that year, Ed Carlyle joined and the band finally used the name MERCURY LEGION to which we recorded a four song demo. Ed was replaced by John Klecker on Bass and Dean Antibus came on board to play second guitar. He was later replaced by Jerry Riggs (former member of Chump who had also recorded a 14 song demo of much of the current lineup's songs). Mercury Legion made 4 albums. They were: Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beer Holder (this album was never truly finished due to finances and we have yet to clean it up due to the circumstances of the last few years), Jason Sears and Mercury Legion (featuring the late Jason Sears of R.K.L. and my favourite punk rock singer of all time!), It's A Wonderful Life (my favourite album), and Art Sucks! (recorded in the garage on a 16 track recorder by Matt, some clean up and unreleased tracks will appear on the next pressing!). We also released a DVD of Alexandria the Cheerleader's last show called ALEXANDRIA'S LAST STAND which I hope to have on the mass market within the next six months. Other Cheerleaders in the band were Wendy, Colleen and Camille. A future DVD featuring all of the girls will be released hopefully in the near future along with some special projects I'm working on with Alexandria as we speak (including a television show called The Late,Late,Late,Late Show with Alexandria and some photobooks of her cheerleading shots). There is also an unreleased album called ALEXANDRIA THE CHEERLEADER (imagine that!) which I am hoping to finish in the near future, culled from previous demos and recordings I hope to clean up (maybe we'll add Alexandria's Last Stand as a bonus DVD. What do you think?). I have recently returned from Toledo, Ohio after a year and a half due to a horrific child custody situation and am now working on an all surf instrumental version with this band lineup called THE BLUECOATS (sound familiar?). Anyways, thanks for all of the great memories and we look forward to seeing you at our final performance at Fannies on may 30th. God bless and take care!
