About Me

MyGen Profile GeneratorTHE BAND IS ON A BRIEF HIATUS AS I (BRYAN) AM WORKING ON A MUSIC DEGREE AND WORKING AS A FREELANCE MUSICIAN (GUITARIST) FOR REGULAR UPDATES CHECK OUT FACEBOOK.COM/BRYANAVEY OR FACEBOOK.COM/JAHQUEST .......................JahQuest has coined the term “Brazilian Reggae” to describe their unique blend of Brazilian styles such as Samba, Baiao, Capoeira and Afoxe’ with the traditional roots reggae of the late seventies. JahQuest was officially founded in 2002, however the first CD was released June 2007. Their songs are in English and Portuguese and their sound in comparison to other bands ranges from Third World, Steel Pulse to Brazilian groups O Rappa and Chico Science. Official band members are: Bryan Avey, the lead vocalist/guitarist also the composer and arranger for all the songs. Andre Luther, drummer and back up vocalist. Jacques Lilavois, bassist and back up vocalist. Edu-Bahia, percussionist. Often times the band is a five piece with an additional percussionist making certain Brazilian sounds more complete. In 1998 Bryan Avey, who grew up in Brazil since the age of three was a child of a missionary family, arrived in California from Brazil, with intent on developing this “Brazilian Reggae” he had in his mind. Bryan met Andre while attending a Brazilian church in Culver City, Ca. The next few years the two carried the band through some difficult times and a constant changing of musicians. EduBahia shared the vision of the music as well, being one who fervently loves reggae and Afro-Brazilian music. The last member to join was Jacques Lilavois, of Haitian descent, a perfect feel for the bass. There is also an honorable mention...Jennifer V! Percussionist from East L.A. who has been several months now sitting in on the action!
