About Me
S.A. Emmons born, perhaps as a oedipal revenge tactic, on December 12th, 1970 to a teenage white girl and a middle aged black man in Cincinnati, Ohio. He (along with his younger brother J.R.) was loosely raised by his mother and a small cadre of hippies, perverts and drug addicts in Central Maine until 1978 when, losing battle between a boyfriend and a mountain of cocaine, S.A. & J.R. were given up for adoption. After a year long stint on a foster farm, S.A. & J.R. foolishly allowed themselves to be adopted by old school Irish Catholic Conservatives in 1979. The father was a Korean war veteran and IRS tax collector who had entered seminary school, the mother about to become a nun when, somehow they found each other and decided they'd rather devote themselves to more earthly pursuits. Like raising children at 50 years of age with a 'spare the rod' brand discipline. For two boys used to running around in the woods like animals, this was pure torture, and something they naturally rebelled against. After realizing that beating a kid it doesn't alter their behavior in a positive way, but rather makes them borderline insane, S.A. was seperated from J.R. and became a ward of the state of Maine. From here, S.A. roamed all over Maine doing what was refered to as the 'Shelter Shuffle'- three week stays at various halfway houses across the state for about a year. During this time S.A. decided to run away from one such shelter in the middle of a snow storm in Chuck Taylor sneakers. He was rewarded with a cute case of frostbite on his toes. The now teenage S.A. was placed into the Rumford Group Home, a hell hole filled with teenage drug addicts, arsonists, batterers, and the mentally unstable. Overseeing this operation were a group of well meaning adults and a few pedophiles, too.School was a complete mess, with S.A. needlessly fighting and routinely getting his ass handed to him. Along with C.O. and K.L., S.A. fell headlong into music in general and Heavy Metal in particular. Picking up an electric guitar in 1985, S.A. struggled to play like the heroes of the day; Van Halen, Vai, Lynch, until a friend let him borrow a tape. It was Black Flag's 'My War'. The raw brutality, the lyrics he could actually relate to, not to mention a guitar style that was close to his own - S.A. had come home.Around 1987, after the suicide of an acquaintance, S.A. made the mistake of getting involved with a social group which, long story short, ended with S.A. being accused of leading a Satanic cult. During the next year and a half this fabrication (and the police) hounded S.A. until December of 1989, when he was ultimately run of town. It's the best thing that ever happened to him. From Rumford, S.A. moved to Portland and took his playing a bit more seriously, playing in Frumunda, Canis Lupus, Lummox, Rumford, and Secular Lambs To Lions / Commode Minstrels. In Atlanta: FKTRN, Fantasy Roxx, Olid Gol, TheTechnicoloreds, and Junks.-2007
