I am Hideo Kojima, a Japanese video game designer at Konami. Formerly the vice president of Konami Computer Entertainment Japan, i am currently the head and founder of
Kojima Productions, a new team devoted to creative game development leaving behind all the business and administrative decision making. Also, i am the creator and director of a number of successful games, including the
Metal Gear series, Snatcher, and Policenauts. I also produced both the Zone of the Enders and the polemic Boktai series.
I am currently working on three projects which are Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the Playstation 3 exclusively, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence exclusively for the Playstation 2 system, due out in Japan on December 22, 2005, and on Metal Gear Acid 2 exclusively for the Playstation Portable system (PSP).
The twenty-first century is not an era in which products sell on the basis of quality, nor is it one in which games receive recognition on the basis of quality.
The business of making hit products, including movies, music, and publications are the same in that respect. Yet when it comes to those products that ride some fleeting wave of popularity, we never truly see their face (Gene) or recollect the time spent (Scene) on them.
Even if these products generate profits they leave no imprint on one's memory (Meme). Games are more than just a business, they are a part of culture.
Should games be products that are used just to kill time?
Should games be viewed as merely tools for making money?
Kojima Productions is a group of creators. Our desire is to create products with faces and send them out into the world. It is our desire to offer users quality products and time well-spent. To return to an era in which games sell on the basis of its quality - that is the mission (Sense) of Kojima Productions."
