Rosario Dawson was born on May 9, 1979 in New York City, NY. Her film career began early when she was discovered while sitting on her front porch, and was asked to do the movie, "Kids." (1995) She is born of Puerto Rican, Cuban, African American, Irish and Native American descent. She was raised in Manhattan by her mother, a professional vocalist, and her father, who worked in construction. She also has a younger brother named Clay. She now has her own production company named Trybe. She also has helped her uncle, artist Gustavo Vasquez, with the concept and production of the "Occult Crimes TaskForce," a comic book series based with Rosario as a main character. She was considered for an Academy Award for her work in "Rent," in which she played a heroin-addicted, HIV+ stripper, a character based off of an original character in Puccini's classic opera, "La Boheme." Rosario has also appeared in "The Vagina Monologues."
