The 1st Annual Carter Mtn. Music Benefit!
Walkin’ To New Orleans:
The Prosthetic Leg Fundraiser
Our group of volunteers from Charlottesville headed down to the New Orleans area to work with Habitat For Humanity. For some of us it was a return trip. Some were falling in love with this place for the very first time. All of us left there as new people. We had the unique opportunity to meet the homeowners who will occupy the home we were building. The mother’s name is Erica Gonzales. One of the many challenges she faced, was being in dire need of a new prosthetic leg. We contacted Harry J. Lawall Prosthetics in Philadelphia. They not only agreed to assist us by offering all of their services for Free (which includes the fittings and casting of the new leg) but also generously offered to pay for her roundtrip plane ticket from Louisiana to Pennsylvania!
We just needed to raise the funds for the cost of the prosthetic, and physical therapy. The Carter Mtn Music Benefit was a huge success! Thank you for joining us in this great cause and helping to make walkin’ in New Orleans a bit easier for a wonderful mother, and hurricane Katrina survivor.
