Born in the birthplace of Motown—Detroit, Michigan—Korbi Dean began singing at age 5, when she put on private concerts for her stuffed animals. Moving to the Deep South, her dance and acting talents began to blossom. But it was through music that she soon found her true “voice.â€
After graduating from the University of South Carolina, Korbi studied voice with renowned opera instructor Lynn Bonie at the Wilmington Academy of Music in North Carolina.
Moving to New York City, Korbi honed her vocal technique under the guidance of platinum selling artist & instructor Katie Agresta, who is also known for coaching Annie Lennox, Dave Matthews & Cyndi Lauper. While studying by day, the nights found her breaking new ground as a singer/songwriter.
She first found success as the guiding force behind “Kennedy Annâ€, a NYC band whose funk-influenced folk quickly gained a following. The band became a staple at such notable venues as CBGBs, Kenny’s Castaways, The Baggot Inn, and the Dark Star Lounge. Her unique songwriting talents were also featured on the soundtrack of “London’s Bridge,†an independent film that premiered at the New York Film Festival in September 2002.
Disbanding the group after a brief tour of the Southern U.S., Korbi relocated to Los Angeles. Since her arrival, she has worked in the studio with numerous talents, including producer Brian Beatty (Blink 182) and Grammy Award-Winning engineer Jim “Cajun†Watts (Emmylou Harris).
Determined to follow in the footsteps of her idols—Carole King, Billie Holiday, Natalie Merchant, Sarah McLaughlin, and Jewel—Korbi continues to develop her unique singing style. She is currently writing and recording new songs, as well as preparing for live shows in-and-around the Southern California scene.
