I've been in Houston for about 3 years now. I was living in New Orleans and finishing my Master's Degree when Mother Nature decided to pay and unscheduled and unappreciated visit. Despite this event, I feel that everything happens for a reason and I'm working hard to make my own space here in the city. I'm currently working two jobs while at the same time trying to finish my education. Some people may not understand how much time and determination is takes to recover after a natural disaster. I never thought I had that much to loose until I lost it. Admittedly, my first year in Houston was very difficult, but through my experiences here I've made some really good friends that I think I'll always have in my life not to mention the knowledge that I've gained to succeed professionally, as well as, spiritually. I believe that hard work and fierce determination can take a person anywhere they want to be. At the same time, I've learned that you can't over do it. I work hard, but I try not to stress myself out. If I do get stressed I put on my running shoes or put on a pair of gloves instead of picking up a bottle (Dont get me wrong; I love red wine. hehe). I make sure each day is more progessive than the day before, but if it's not, TOMORROW'S A NEW DAY!!!! My younger siblings are gifted athletes in college and high school and they are watched over by our fine upstanding parents who have been married for 30 years. To have the family and friends that I have is truly a blessing.
