The Reluctant Goat

About Me

The band formed in Spring 2006, out of a casual conversation and a bit of musical messing about, when three very different characters discovered a common bond- an epic love for the great Jazz and Swing tunes of the 30s, 40s & 50s. It all fell into place with a great universal click and we've been having great fun exploring this timeless music ever since. We've had some great festival gigs- Omagh Arts Festival (2006), Enniskillen Arts Festival (2006), Mid-Ulster Film Festival (2006 & 2007)- and after a 10 month residency in Sienna (Letterkenny), we are currently resident band on Saturday nights at Cafe Merlot in Enniskillen. With two members based in Omagh and one in Donegal we're something of a cross-border outfit. Keith, the guitarist, is based in Omagh, where he also works as an accredited guitar teacher. Glenn has made a winding journey from his home place of Cornwall to settle in Omagh, with a detour via London where he worked for many years in several well-established Jazz bands. Karen is an accredited singing teacher; an Omagh native, now based in Falcarragh, Co. Donegal. With The Reluctant Goat we've tried to put our own stamp on some of the best loved songs of the early twentieth century. We love the big swing hits, like "Fly me to the moon", as well as the more sultry songs like "Georgia on my mind". Cole Porter is probably one of our favourite song writers, and considering his prolific output, it's hardly surprising that we do quite a few of his songs. We're hoping that within the next few months we'll have some original material to add to our repertoire.

Women’s Aid

I just want to do a wee plug for Women's Aid. There's no doubt that the world's getting better for us XX folk but, sad to say, it's not all peaches and cream for everyone. The good news is that the ha...

It don’t mean a thing...if you ain’t got that web profile

So, we've taken the leap and transmogrified into zeros and ones for the purpose of shameless self-promotion. These are the times in which we live. So this week I think I should be waxing lyrical about...
