“It’s good to be back in rock ‘n’ roll,” says Erik Walet, one of Holland’s most underrated and humble musical talents. “Starting all over again and again, to have that feeling of an absolute beginner, where it’s still the first and deepest cut that counts.”

Back in the 80s, the bleached-blonde Dutchman, who embodies the rock ‘n’ roll spirit like no other, was the vocalist of the Amsterdam-based garage rock band The Songbirds. Living in Amsterdam and Copenhagen, Walet founded several musical projects over the years, such as JoJo Dildo and Wallet & Laughter (produced by Urban Dance Squad DJ DNA), amongst others. In Denmark, Walet had a longtime collaboration with classical composer Mads Nordheim. They worked as songwriters for the late Dutch musician and artist Herman Brood and German punk icon Nina Hagen. Walet and Nordheim also produced music for TV commercials and film.

After traveling the world, Walet moved back to his hometown of Amsterdam in 2006, where he met musician and studio engineer Alain Tempelaars. Together they started the BoMDoG project and recorded the CD Face New Crime, which they describe as a “city rock street glam statement.” The songs reflect the decade we live in, touching on war, financial markets and religion. Photography and video art play an important role within the BoMDoG project. “Making videos is essential for my music,” says Walet. An apocalyptic clip like DeLuGe wouldn’t have been possible without the work that he did for the decadent performance group Post Porn, where he was a founding member. “That’s why BoMDoG is not a band, that’s why I’m not in a band, I just don’t like the democratic restrictions you always have with playing in a band,” he adds.

Currently, Walet is working on a solo project involving a number of musicians, such as Mike Garson (David Bowie’s pianist) and several video artists. IG
