Rock-A-Round Entertainment is pleased to present its first annual
Wild Weekend Power Pop Festival, Friday, August 29th and Saturday, August 30th in Austin, TX. It’s a weekend filled with exciting reunions mixed with some of today’s most electrifying touring acts.
Among the headliners of this action packed weekend will be first wave UK punk artists
The Boys (“First Time,†“I Don’t Careâ€), appearing for their first and only U.S. show in over 25 years, and
Paul Collins' Beat (“Rock N Roll Girl,†“Walking Out On Loveâ€), who defined the skinny-tie power pop sound of the '80s.
Other notable bands playing this festival include Vancouver’s
Pointed Sticks (“What Do You Want Me To Do,†“Apologiesâ€), whose recent reissue of their epic “Perfect Youth†album spawned sold out shows in Japan and Canada.
20/20 (“Yellow Pills,†“Cheriâ€) are back together to bring the quintessential power pop sound to the masses, alongside fellow Bomp Records alumni
Nikki Corvette (“You’re The One,†“He’s A Moverâ€).
They will all be joined on multiple stages by nearly two dozen “Now Wave†power pop bands, many of which are inspired by these reuniting headliners.
There will also be vendors including Full Breach 77, Twitch To The Tune, Breakaway Records, Get Hip, Bombs Away, and many more on hand slinging records, t-shirts, silk-screened posters, zines, and other punk rock goodies.
The main festivities are taking place at Mohawk, but there will be day shows and other parties happening at Beerland and other locations.

BOSS MARTIANS are thee Rock & Roll jet boys to look for in 2008! Got Songs? HELL YES! At least, that is, according to Rolling Stone's David Fricke who anointed them "rising stars" referencing their addictive hooks and super-charged performance last summer in NYC at Little Steven's International Underground Garage Festival alongside The Strokes and Iggy Pop! SPIN, quick to get aboard, said "the Boss Martians' irresistible 'I Am Your Radio' should make them stars" regarding the Foster-penned Power Pop instant-anthem. Taking it all over the top that day was the introduction they received from the "Boss" himself -- Bruce Springsteen -- to 10,000 people!
Martian History Lesson: Evan Foster and NickC (keyboards) met as teens in Tacoma, WA and discovered a mutual obsession with Garage, Punk, Surf, and Power Pop and they both wanted to start a band and take over the world -- enter The Boss Martians!! The Martians uniquely combine the primal energy of Punk with the raw, unmistakable sound and swagger of Northwest Garage Rock (think The Sonics!!), English blue-eyed soul, and the pure pop sensibility of a young, sneering Elvis Costello. Rounding out the band's low end thump and drum-killing bump, respectively, are "Scary" Scott Myrene on bass guitar and the mysterious, Spokane-born, Thomas Caviezel on drums.
The last few years have proven to be very successful for the Boss Martians with relentless DIY touring all over the U.S. and Europe in support of their last full-length release "The Set-Up" (MuSick Recordings / India Records). The BIG NEWS right now is that IGGY POP has co-written AND performed on the new Boss Martians album entitled "Pressure in the S.O.D.O." The album, mixed by Rock & Roll genius Jack Endino, was released in Europe on India Records in November 2007, and is scheduled in the U.S. for May, 2008 on MuSick Recordings -- so keep your eyes and ears peeled for more release info and tour dates!!
