Joe Elliott came up with the name DEAF LEOPARD for his imaginary band when he was still in school. When he joined the band that was called ATOMIC MASS at the time, they decided to change it into DEAF LEOPARD, and then later changed the spelling to DEF LEPPARD
Joe maintains a recording studio in his home called Joe's Garage in which he has recorded and produced many major artists. Artists have also recorded in Joe's Garage while Joe has been on the road with Def Leppard.

"Mick Ronson died on April 30th, 1993. Def Leppard was in Stockholm & it was not a happy day. During our set & very spontaneously, I decided to do an acoustic version of ZIGGY STARDUST. The rest of the guys were cool about it, they knew how much Ronno meant to me, but what was even cooler was the crowd reaction.
You see, Mick had lived in Sweden for a while so everybody in the crowd knew him & wanted to pay their respects too. It was a strange & beautiful thing to see & hear thousands of Swedes holding up lighters & making a weird humming sound. One year on & we're into the opening bars of WIDTH OF A CIRCLE & I can hardly believe it. Little ol' me groovin' away on songs I grew up on that I never thought I'd get the chance to perform live, especially with the original "spiders" rhythm section. That was the 1st Mick Ronson memorial show.
Jump forward to 1997 & the opportunity of doing it one more time knocks on the door. Only this time we wanted to take it out a little further. Five shows were arranged so we could get our teeth into it a bit. With these songs & with Phil's ability to showcase Ronno's contribution to them, a one-off gig wasn't just gonna be enough. Five shows hardly makes a tour, but it did give us the opportunity to entend our hand in an environment that we all felt very comfortable in.
The Cybernauts album is pulled together from these shows & is in my opinion, a very worthy testament to the talents of two people who had a huge effect on me as I meandered through my youth, namely David Bowie who wrote some of the most inspirational music ever (I mean EVER!!!) & Mick Ronson who always played guitar the way I liked to hear it played."

Def Leppard's Joe Elliott "Some Songs On New CD 'Don't Sound Like Anything We've Ever Done"
DEF LEPPARD frontman Joe Elliott recently spoke to Christina Fuoco-Karasinski of LiveDaily about the group's upcoming album, entitled "Songs from the Sparkle Lounge". "It's named so because we wrote much of the songs in a little room backstage on the tour," Joe said. "We set it up every day. No matter where we were, we set this stuff up. Sometimes we didn't go in, sometimes we did. If anybody had any ideas for songs, we banged them down. It just made our life a lot easier. We don't normally write well on the road, but for some reason it worked this time. [I]t's a great little scenario, what we had going. The crew would put up the gear, but we would use the gig as the secondary studio situation. They just put all these sparkley lights up everywhere — hence the title 'Sparkle Lounge' — and give a bit of atmosphere, and off we went. The songs just kept coming and coming and coming. It was really cool, I have to say. It worked really well. Musically, ['Songs from the Sparkle Lounge' is] a big mish mash of various stages of LEPPARD through the ages, I think. Some of it sounds like 'Hysteria' songs recorded during the 'High and Dry' period. There's some songs that don't sound like anything we've ever done. I think that's important. We've gone a little left field on a couple of songs. Hopefully, we'll pull in audience interest. Who knows? We may bring in new people. That's the dream of every artist that makes records. We'll have to wait and see on that one. I think we may write more songs on this tour because we've set up the Sparkle Lounge yet again."
