Born September 21st, 1991, Darnell Leonard was raised in Northern Virginia but currently resides in Kansas City, KS. He always knew he was gifted, but at the age of 15, someone else discovered his musical talents. Local artist Louie V noticed his lyrical ability, and later gave him his current stage name, D.Linquent.
Influenced by Nas, Lupe Fiasco, Juelz Santana, and many others, D.Linquent brings a smooth, melodic flow that’s not heard too often in a city with a heavier gangsta rap scene. You can hear his passion and well developed delivery in every bar of his music. His style isn’t common, and the subject matter in his lyrics is something that everyone can relate to. “I describe my style of rapping as real… my music is truthful. I've always been different from everyone else, and that's especially true with my music. It's different from a lot of other rap music that you normally hear.” Among his peers, D.Linquent’s soulful lyrics stand out and raise the bar for the Kansas City rap scene and young rappers like himself. At first, rapping was just a hobby. That later changed in August 2008, when it was brought to his attention that with his talent, he could further his rap career and make it much more.
D.Linquent recorded his first song, The Rain, in December 2007. “It was a very deep song. I wrote it when I was confused and upset about a lot of things.” His first mixtape, The Previews, was released December 9th, 2008. “With this mixtape, I’m just showing everybody what I’m lyrically capable of. It's just a bunch of songs that I worked hard on a put on a CD.” His follow up mixtape is scheduled to drop in the first half of 2009. D.Linquent plans to put Kansas City on the map, hoping one day he'll be a household name. “When people mention Kansas City artists, I want them to say my name FIRST. But other than that, I just want people to hear me out.”
