I LIVE IN NAPLES FLORIDA.I ESTABLISHED MY FIRM (M. BARNETT DESIGN STUDIO) IN 2000. MY WORK FOCUSES ON OFF GRID ISLAND HOMES/SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE/AND RETRO MODERN. OF COURSE, I ALSO DESIGN MEDITERRANEAN.....BUT TRY TO HELP PEOPLE CHOOSE ENVIRONMENTAL AND/OR HEALTHY PRODUCT CHOICES. I FOLLOW GREEN DESIGN PRINCIPLES. I LOVE IT WHEN MY CLIENTS WANT TO INCORPORATE NEW ENERGY SYSTEMS INTO THEIR HOMES. I AM NOT A RECENT CONVERT. I HAVE BEEN DESIGNING THIS WAY SINCE ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL (1986).EVERY HOUSE SHOULD BE MARRIED TO THE SITE UPON WHICH IT SITS. I BELIEVE THAT IF YOU DESIGN A HOUSE IT SHOULD BE SITE SPECIFIC - TO ALL THE NATURAL FORCES THAT WILL AFFECT THE HOUSE. IF YOU MOVE INTO A HOUSE-DO THINGS TO IT TO MAKE IT MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT. ALSO, A HOUSE "BLESSING" CAN ADD A PEACE AND TRANQUILITY.MY LOVE OF ARCHITECTURE GROUNDS ME AND MAKES ME FEEL LIKE I HAVE A CHANCE TO CHANGE THINGS. I THINK IT IS UP TO DESIGNERS AND SCIENTISTS TO MOVE THE USA INTO THE RIGHT DIRECTION - AS FAR AS HOW TO CONSERVE ENERGY AND FIND ALTERNATIVES TO THE FUELS THAT WE USE NOW.I AM ALSO VERY INTERESTED IN PRESERVATION OF HOMES AS THIS IS ALONG THE SAYING OF REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE. UNLIKE A LOT OF OTHER ARCHITECTS, I APPRECIATE THE VALUE IN SAVING STRUCTURES AND NOT DEPOSITING THEM INTO THE LANDFILLS.
