My Interests

Music:

Band Website: aries9.com
Band Members: Ari K.
Influences: U2, Midnight Oil, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Pearl Jam, King's X, Tori Amos, System of a Down, In Flames, Blankey Jet City, Stone Temple Pilots, Dream Theater, Pet Shop Boys, Porcupine Tree, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Pink Floyd, The Mars Volta
Sounds Like: Various ways of arriving to Aries9:

From Porcupine Tree: subtract psychedelia and synth, make it rawer.

From Bends-era Radiohead: add hard rock elements and generally speed up the songs.

From King's X: subtract a few riffs and turn it more chordal, less hard rock and more atmospheric.

From Alice in Chains: less metal and more rock, subtract drug references from the lyrics.

From Pearl Jam: A bit more metal/hard rock influences, and less jammy. More vocal harmonies, take out the blues elements from guitar solos.

From Stone Temple Pilots: Keep the weird chords, but take the sinister, bitter tones from the vocals.

From Dada: Turn it darker, take out most of the humor (but leave just a hint), add in more metal and hard rock.

From Toad the Wet Sprocket: This one may be a bit of a stretch -- turn up the tempo, up the heaviness factor by 10, take out the folk, focus on the darker side of their range, lyrically and musically. If you dig songs like "Fall Down" and "Stories I Tell," you'll get Aries9.

Lyrically, Aries9 also shows some similarities to Tori Amos.

Others have compared it to Nirvana, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, King Crimson, Soundgarden, and Smashing Pumpkins. Fans of these artists may enjoy Aries9.
